Hello,

I am new to this group and was diagnosed with IgAN/FSGS in April 2002. The

doctors believe I have had this for approximately 10

years prior to diagnosis. The progression has been stable ever since with the

start of an ACE inhibitor.

I am eager to begin reading all of the recent message traffic, and apologize if

this topic has been discussed before. Has anyone had

successful LASIK eye surgery or been told that you are not a candidate solely

because of your IgAN?

Thanks very much,

Hi ,

Welcome to the group! I'm sorry you have reason to be here, but am very

glad you found your way here. This site has been enormously helpful to me -

and I hope it is to you too.

We have never discussed LASIK eye surgery - or had someone with IgAN/FSGS

either! I've read papers from Japan that claim there is an disease entity

that has the histological appearance of both MPGN and FSGS, but never

IgAN/FSGS. Here's hoping that it continues to remain stable. If you don't

mind my asking, what kind of numbers did you present with?

I'm glad you raised the LASIK subject because it is one that I'd like to

learn more about. I'd raise this one with both your opthalmologist and

nephrologist. Anyone else here have any experience with this one?

Welcome again!

Cy

To my knowledge, this is the first time the question has come up here. It's

an interesting one too.

Patients who are not candidates for Lasik:

" Are being treated with medications such as steroids or immunosuppressants,

which can prevent healing, or are suffering from diseases that slow healing,

such as autoimmune disorders. "

I just quoted the above from http://www.lasikinstitute.org/index.html

I don't think there's much data about it in relation to a kidney disease

like IgAN. As we all know already, IgAN doesn't quite neatly fit into the

category of an autoimmune disease, but it's certainly related to the immune

system.

Let us know what you find out from your own doctor.

Hi ,

A very warm welcome to our group. Sorry you have been diagnosed with

both IgAN and FSGS, but you have found the right place for

encouragement and support.

I have never considered lasix, so I can't answer your question there,

but I just wanted to extend a formal welcome to the group.
