Guest guest
Hi all! Newbie here & we're concerned because our 8mos son was diagnosed with brachy (at 6mo). From the formula that we found here (top of head photo shot calculation), he's about 3sd. Our ped has refered us to Cranial Tech for evaluation and we'll be going next week. Anyway, since most likely we'll be paying out of pocket, we're interested in finding out approximately how much different helmets/procedures cost (DOC, Star, Hanger, etc) and if one is recommended over another. Thank you in advance for all your help. Fatima

Guest guest
Hi! My son is in a DOCband and insurance didn't pay one dime...We have CIGNA PPO and usually they pay, but for some reason I'm on the ONE plan that considers the band a " voluntary " procedure(they'll only pay if he had to wear it after a surgery). But ours was $2500 b/c the CT in Dallas, Tx is contracted with CIGNA. If they weren't contracted it will have been $3000. If you pay all upfront, you get 10% off. They also have a payment plan(that doesn't include any interest charges). It's very expensive...hope you're not sticker shocked like we were! Guest guest
Hi Fatima, Welcome to the group! We paid completely out of pocket for DS' DOC Band. They run about $3k. That includes all the appointments. To compensate for the cost we didn't go on vacation the next year. Don't give up on insurance! Lots of people are denied but win on appeal. DD's band was given out of network coverage. I am still fighting to get more money back. You can get information on the difference between the bands here. Hanger is going to have similar information as the DOC Band. You can see a DOC band and STARband made for the same child here. And you can get a great list of questions for an ortho here. Check out the before and after albums in the photos section. Good luck Mom to Dane (4 yo) and Cece (14 mo) DOC grads

Guest guest
Hanger is going to have similar information as the DOC > Band. Whoops! Slip of the fingers! Hanger is going to be similar to the STARband info on that link. You'll need to make sure the ortho is experienced. Sorry!

Guest guest
The STARband, if we decide to get one, will cost us $2,800 through Center for Independent Rehabilitative Services in Oakland, CA. Our insurance, Kaiser, will cover 80% of the cost.
