Guest guest
First of all, Hemoccult is capped. Second, if it's just Hemoccult positive, it's not hyphenated, but if it's Hemoccult-positive stool, it's hyphenated. Does that help? Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. " " Whoever signs the paycheck makes the rules. " to hyphen or not to hyphen Since I haven't transcribed in a while I was going over some of my notes and I have this marked 2 different ways so I was wondering if somebody could help me so I can correct my cheat sheets. Is hemoccult positive hyphenated? I'm not sure if I forgot the hyphen or if I had found 2 different sources siting 2 different ways to type it. I don't remember hyphenating it but then the company I typed for was very lax. Thanks ---Tammy

Guest guest
Don't forget that Hemoccult is a brand name and should always be capitalized. My account does not hyphenate the phrase. I do hyphenate " heme-positive stool " , or " heme-negative stool " . Hope that helps. Guest guest
What about if a doctor says " Heme positive stools " ? Is that right??? No hyphen, cap ? I just had that come up and was getting ready to print out his letters, but I'd like to know for sure before I do. Re: to hyphen or not to hyphen Rose.. Guest guest
, It is heme-positive stools. Hemoccult is capped, but heme is not. heme positive by itself is not hypenated but heme-positive stools is hyphenated. Margaret >>> " N. Guest guest
No cap unless it's the beginning of a sentence, and yes, with stools behind it it gets a hyphen: heme-positive stools. Guest guest
YEAH! I've been doing it right then. I was worried there for a minute. Good thing - I was going to have re-proof everything before I printed and now I don't have to. What if they say " Stools are heme positive. " Is that right? No hyphen Re: to hyphen or not to hyphen Rose.. No hyphen, the word is spelled Hemoccult positive. It is the name of a specific test and should be capitalized. Have a good one! Guest guest
Yes, that's right. Stools are heme positive has heme positive by itself and therefore no hyphen. Margaret >>> " N.
