Thanks, Val. You know, this group is invaluable. When I try to talk to

other people who have no knowledge or experience with the disease, they

invariably think I'm just coddling my daughter too much! I'm not that type

of person in the first place so it really makes me mad.

I'll be checking with the doctor soon. Thanks!

What kinds of exercises are reasonable for Graves' people? My

daughter likes to bike but with her heart rate averaging 108 during

the day, I'm unsure of what's all right for her to do. Opinions?

Experiences? Our entire family enjoy walking; how about that?

Thanks! Amy's Pam

Hi Amy's Pam,

Amy should really not be doing any exercise until her numbers come down and

her heart rates slows to a more normal pace. Her heart is already working

overtime, adding to it would probably not be very safe for her right now. I

know when I had thyroid storm, the one thing they were very concerned with

was that my heart had been working overtime for so long and so hard, that

they were afraid it had become enlarged. The heart can do that, just as any

other muscle we work.

Tell Amy, patience for a few weeks longer, when things settle down, she can

get back to her normal activities.

I have 2 doctor names and a phone number for you from my doctor. I will send

them to you privately, then you can call and talk to the doctors about BRT

with children, or you can pass them on to your daughters endo if he is

interested in it.

I'll send them on to ou in a little while.

Jody

Hi Amy's Pam,

Amy should really not be doing any exercise until her numbers come down and

her heart rates slows to a more normal pace. Her heart is already working

overtime, adding to it would probably not be very safe for her right now. I

know when I had thyroid storm, the one thing they were very concerned with

was that my heart had been working overtime for so long and so hard, that

they were afraid it had become enlarged. The heart can do that, just as any

other muscle we work.

Tell Amy, patience for a few weeks longer, when things settle down, she can

get back to her normal activities.
