Guest guest
Frances, Deciding whether or not to band your child is a difficult decision, but one you need to make confidently. Do not band Jakub if you aren't completely confident with your decision b/c odds are you won't keep it on him 23 hrs a day if you heart isn't in it. If someone wrote you the prescription than they think Jakub needs a band. If agreed to band him than she thinks he needs a band. You have to keep in mind that Cranial Tech has a great reputation and that is because babies consistently have positive experiences and change wearing DOCbands. If they banded babies who didn't have enough plagio/brachy/scaphy to see positive change in a DOCband than parents would NOT be happy and Cranial Tech would not have the great reputation they have. All the orthos at Cranial Tech are trained in the same way by the same people at their corporate headquarters in Arizona. We have had many parents on this board who were told by Cranial Tech that their child should NOT be banded because they were too mild. In some cases this was for a first band, and in other it was for a second or third band. You have absolutely no reason to be nervous about the band. Babies are not bothered by them and while they may be stared at, they will not know why. Jakub will just figure it's because people think he's cute! If he's older and still has a flat head he will also get started at, but then he'll probably know why. He probably wasn't ever bothered by his apnea monitor either, so I really wouldn't feel bad. The helmet won't make him miserable. Another thing to take into account is your saying repo isn't going well and that you're not able to do it 24/7 b/c of work and also that he hates tummy time. This is not a very good formula for self rounding and he absolutely could still get worse. I don't remember if you've ever mentioned how old Jakub is, but if he's still fairly young and you truly could be committed to 24/7 repo for 3 weeks or so then you could have CT help you evaluate him to see if you are seeing progress--but again, it doesn't sound like you're able to truly repo 24/7 and I don't know how old Jakub is. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com > > > hi everyone im just not sure if i should go therough with this.. > i > > have > > > made the decision and have already notified the baby's doctor > for > > the > > > prescription but its still ibn my mind if i should or not.. they > > said > > > its a mild case.. only 4 standard deviations below the mean, no > > facial > > > assymetry, only his head is wider in the back.. it can be fixed > > with > > > repo i guess but my only concern is that i will not know if its > > > better .. or how long i should give it.. what if it gets worse.. > > im not > > > home with him in the day to do repo.. i work and his grandma is > > home.. > > > she is really not all aware of how to repo... and im not sure if > > she > > > will know how to do it.. i dont think its that bad now that i > look > > at > > > it everyday.. should i ask the therapist whodid consult with us > > for the > > > cephalic index????>i still am unsure.. im so afraid of making > the > > wrong > > > deciision will he look different after the band??? > > > > > > > > > > For more plagio info
