It's very likely still a bit too low.. for most folks underarm temp runs about 1 degree lower than under tongue temp. Getting the basal body temp up over the 98.2 mark allows the body processes to work better.... digestion, bowels... all that happy stuff.... So it's best to try to get it there... if your arm pit is running cool..that puts you at 97.6.. and if it's not running cool, that puts you at 96.6.

BUT... it also depends on the thermometer you are using....

Digital fever thermometers are for checking for fever, above 'normal' temp.. they are notoriously inaccurate for monitoring lower than 'normal' temps.

So.. .now that I haven't answered your question!!! hehehehehee

Aha - but you have:-))))) I remembered what you said about not using digital and bought a mercury one:-)))))))) So can I assume that if I up the dose very slightly in a couple of weeks, that will take care of the temperature side, or should I do anything else (like add another blanket LOL!).

Thanks :-)))))

You should be waiting four to six weeks between dosage changes.. it will be easier on your hear that way.... Keep checking your temp... as you do the dosage increases you should see it rise... it's actually fun to watch.... Mine would go up for a few days after an adjustment then drop down, but not as low and that would repeat with each dose until it finally got up to where it's supposed to be.... I'm happy with it between 98.2 and 98.4 for waking temp....

Now, lately, my temp has dropped... daytime temp is even a bit low... not sure if it's a seasonal adjustment thing or being out of b-12 for nearly a month or a combo of the two.. or something else.... Just keeping an eye on it for now....

Yep - I was thinking of leaving the next increase until it was four weeks or something like that (possibly a bit more) - have written it down in my diary. I've been dashing around all day today cleaning the kitchen, lounge, hall, bathroom, kittens room, front windows and all sorts - it's beginning to be difficult to remember having no energy! It's beginning to feel like it was just a bad dream. I think possibly not taking much prozac now is also helping. Can't say I've noticed any difference re depression though - no sign of it:-)))) It's interesting that the temperature goes up for a few days after an increase and then drops down just a little bit. My pulse rate was only 60 when I was watching tv during the day, but I think that might be something to do with the heart pills. I spoke to someone earlier who sees the same heart consultant as I'm due to see in a couple of weeks and she told him she didn't want to keep taking beta blockers, so he told her to stop. Hope he tells me the same thing:-)))

Can you not get some more b-12? I'm waiting to get the CoQ10. If I can't get it this week locally, I'm sending off for it. I asked (husband) to get it but our local chemist didn't have it. He did find out the price from somewhere else and it's very expensive, isn't it. He was horrified when he thought I'd be taking one a day, but when I said I thought I might have to take more, he looked aghast LOL!

Well, you take care there and if I can help with anything do say:-))) And thanks for the advice:-))))) I would never have dared self medicate if it hadn't been for you:-)))

Hi

The goal is an underarm temp between 97.7 and 98.2 ...

so yours looks pretty low. But remember, it takes time

and for some people, they feel better but the temp

never quite normalizes ... how are you feeling?

Oh yeah... I got my B-12 order, along with another jar of Progesterone cream in last Friday... I had to wait for the money to come... remember that guy that fired me a few weeks back? That was the money that was to go for this stuff. I didn't get to order everything that I'd planned.. but I got my 'have tos'. I've been back on the B-12 for 6 1/2 days now... I'm sure it will take time to build up again, as it did when I first started last year... but I've learned patience. I try to order before I run out.. but the money isn't always in my favor!! hehehehehe

It's cool, I think, to watch the ebb and flow of the body. Oddly I never noticed a difference as far as my monthly cycle, although in years passed when I was taking temps as part of birth control I noticed differences... I wonder if, when your metabolic rate gets really messed up, monthly cycles aren't so evident anymore, when compared to the metabolic rate fluctuations as you start increasing hormones and becoming more active. That's the kind of thing that would involve a lot of younger women to follow to see if it's true or not.

I've got more stuff coming in the next week.... mostly to have here before I run out... I'm getting low on a few things... Computer season is here, I should be getting in some more work so I'll be building up my stashes again! hehehehe

You did really great with learning this stuff Chris... I'm just so happy that you were able to get things going in the right direction before you got as run down and beat up as some of the rest of us.... Now.. with all that extra energy.... please feel welcome to fly over here and catch up some of the chores I'm behind on, okay? hehehehehehe

I shouldn't complain... I'm doing so much better that I was just a few years ago.... and still working on tweaking things to make them better. I'm showing signs that things in my body are shifting again... I just have to keep and eye out until I figure out what it is trying to tell me. I know the progesterone cream has had a big impact on me... I wonder if it has shifted how my body is using the thyroid hormones... I'll just have to watch..... sigh... .

Hi Marlena, I feel wonderful thanks. Very slightly tired now but I've done more housework today than I've done in one day for years. I'll keep doing the temperature and see if it gradually goes up, and if not, I'll increase to thee quarters of a tablet in the mornings (with the half in the afternoon). I've got a note to increase toward the later half of October. Thanks for the advice!

Oh I'm so glad you've got it now, anyway. I hope it all settles again quickly!

Yes, it is fascinating stuff about temperatures etc. etc. There could be some interesting results from a bit of research on data done on it.

Funny - you're the second one today who has offered me the chance of doing their chores LOL! No, seriously, I feel incredibly lucky. I'm only too aware that had it not been for someone mentioning it on the NBA Group, and them mentioning a Thyroid Support Group (still don't know which one they were talking about LOL!) I wouldn't have looked on yahoo and joined this one and my life would have been SO different! What does the progesterone cream do? I've noticed people mentioning it, but why do you use it, what do you do with it and what are the results?

Have you got any computer work at the moment? I'm still keen to send someone wanting a cat site to you - I haven't forgotten. Just looking for that ideal opportunity to slip it in:-)))))

Well, you have a great evening there and here's a big hug from me:-)))))

I came up with something else, too, the might be contributing to my current shift..... We had a discussion here a while back on caffeine... I've been experimenting with that too. If I think about it and there is coffee left in the pot after everyone finishes I'll have some... I still hate the taste of it.... but... hmmm... I wonder if that might be contributing to this too......

Anyway... If I stop the intermittent caffeine now I'll not know if it's from adding caffeine, running out of B-12 or the weather shift.... so I'll just leave things as they are... the weather will finishing working it's way to winter... the B-12 will do it's thing now that I'm taking it again... and if the shift in my body response doesn't shift back the other way.... I'll cut the caffeine and monitor again.

Isn't this just soooo much fun to keep refiguring things just when you think you have it down pat???

NOT

hehehehehe

My addiction to coffee when HypoT was such that my

colleagues in school suggested I should take it

intravenoulsy! It's interesting to me that now I don't

drink it, only tea, and often only camomile tea. I

take B12 too, suggested by my private thyroid doc and

I too have run out. Like you I'm thinking that the

downturn in my energy levels has more to do with the

onset of winter and lack of light early in the

morning. Time for my SAD lamp I think!

I do miss the sunrise... my bedroom faces northeast so I get the sunrise all summer long when I'm waking... now... Now, I'm up long before sunrise and, well, I'm missing it. I'm gonna make the effort to spend some time outside tomorrow.. it's supposed to be sunny and clear. It's Friday, a cooking/baking day... but I'll do my 'sit downs' outside....

Do you have a source for B-12? I'd been getting mine at Sam's then they stopped carrying it.. the last bottle I got was a bitty one from Walmart and waayy too expensive.. this time I ordered from on of my favorite stores... Puritan's Pride... I like their products, prices are decent.... and I can order by mail....

I get my B12 from the chemist. It is unbranded; I ask

for Cytacon. I suppose you can buy unbranded medicines

in the USA?

Hi ,

Oh - I was hoping something might have come in computer work wise, by now. But I'll keep it in mind (I am SO proud I can say that now LOL!) and if there's an opportunity to send someone to you, I will:-)))))

Yes, I was looking in The Great Thyroid Scandal in bed last night - almost finished it, but I'm finding in many cases, while it tells you in one chapter to avoid, where you can, brussel sprouts, brocolli, strawberries, coffee, tea etc. etc. in another it encourages you to use these because they are low in carbs, and they give you a low carb diet. My feeling is, that this low carb diet, if it's including things that are NOT good for underactive thyroid, they shouldn't be in the book. But going back to coffee, I only drink one cup a day (instant) and it's seeming not to cause problems at the moment, but I reckon it could be as well for you to get stablised again and then try cutting it out. It's difficult - we all know that we need to drink a certain amount, but if we keep cutting out stuff that we like (although it sounds like you're not that keen on the coffee anyway!LOL) I find I end up not drinking so much.

Yes, I know what you mean about having to keep refiguring things out. I'm waiting for that to happen LOL! I can't believe that things are going to keep going as well for me as they are LOL! I feel fantastic - better than I've felt for donkeys years - probably better than I've felt for 30 years! I keep thinking this just can't last - it can't be that easy LOL! But the consolation is, that even if something does start sliding downhill, I KNOW it can be sorted, even if it takes a bit of time.

Well, the people who told me they'd be here at lunch time to collect their kitten have just phoned and told me they'll be here in half an hour (10 am) so it's a good job I ploughed through all that housework yesterday:-)))))

You hang in there and get stablised quickly now:-))))

Love Chris

NOT

hehehehehe

Topper, the Spring Valley liquid form with some of the other Bs in it, including B5, isn't that expensive, and Walmart sells it, as well as a lot of other common places. That's what I've been using, when I remember to buy it, or can, lol. It's in a small white bottle with green writing on it, called B Complex Sublingual. I haven't travelled to the healthfood stores yet, so far.
