Guest guest
I watched a TV show on DIY (Do-It-Yourself Network) called "The Queen of Clean" (she has books out by the same name) and this woman is incredible. She finds ways to use regular simple things as household cleaners, while minimizing the harmful chemicals. She uses baking soda for everything, and also uses a lot of Borax (the laundry stuff) but I've never used that so I don't know how chemically safe it is. She even made an oven cleaner out of a baking soda paste (and we all know how strong spray oven cleaner is!) and I tried it...it worked! I was amazed. However, these days, I do whatever requires the least amount of energy from me, and the baking soda stuff works, and is fume-free and all, but it requires more elbow grease than I have to give! I'm finally starting to feel a little better the past few days, since I've started taking vitamins with Selenium in them. I find that I'm not requiring naps as much, or at least not for as long. Guest guest
Thanks, I will try to remember to pace myself, but after not having any energy for so long and finally having a little bit, it's hard not to do everything all at once. LOL! I am completley curious to find out whether or not T3 or Armour would help me. I've heard such glowing reviews of everyone else who has tried it, and it seems to me that I haven't heard of anyone who didn't like it. I've only been on Synthroid 6 weeks, and my TSH is at least closer to normal (3.08, still a little high from what I"m reading here, and I think I'll try to convince my PCM to target me below 2.0 and see how I feel at the different levels). But I'm a little lost about the T3...how do I know if I need it? I am still gaining weight instead of losing it, my hair is falling out ever since I started Synthroid, and I still crash in the afternoons any time between 3pm-7pm (depending a lot on when I got up, if I force myself to get up and stay up at 8 when I take my Synthroid, I find that I get tired closer to 3, and if I sleep in, that pushes it back to several hours later). Should I just ask my doc to switch me to Armour and see what happens? Should I add Cytomel to my Synthroid and see if that works? Should I have my T3 tested first...and even if it's "normal" would it hurt to switch to Armour or the other drug that contains both T4 and T3 (can't remember the name, Thyrolar, maybe?)? I don't know what I should be requesting at this point. Maybe I should give the Synthroid another 6 weeks and see? If I do switch to Armour or add Cytomel, how do I know what dose to be on? I'm taking 75mcg Synthroid right now, but my TSH has room to improve still, but I don't want to go too far and end up hyper. There is a 50mcg and 100mcg equivalent dose of Armour, or I could try taking one 50mcg plus a 25mcg to equal my current 75mcg, but then I'd have to take two pills, or perhaps get 1/2x extra amount of the 50mcg and take one and half pills a day....I just don't know. Opinions and advice are welcome!! I want to talk to my doctor about this, but we're going "home" to Kentucky (my hubby and I are both from there, and no matter where the military sends us, that's still "home" to us) from Nov 4th-20th, so I won't be able to do anything during that time with my meds, but that also gives me more time to gather more info about it and try to make an informed decision. I'm thinking I'm going to have to stay on the Synthroid until we get back here to NC from our vacation and then maybe by then I'll know more about what I want to do. I just want to feel good while we're at home with the family! Re: Bicarb... Just don't over do things, , as you are feeling better... give your body a chance to get stronger.... ease into being more active, okay? I've not seen that show yet... I might just have to check out the DIY channel and see what other treasures are there!!! Guest guest
I know it's hard to remember to pace.. that's why I tend to say it a LOT... see, I didn't pace... and I ended up running by body down to the point where I was actually experiencing muscle failure.... as in I'd be walking along, just in the house, and my legs would decide that it was too much to keep doing and would just give... and down I'd got in a lump... no warning.. they'd just give.... Yes, I know, extreme... but it built up in me and I kept pushing... until my body let me know in NO uncertain terms that something was wrong..... Anyway... T3.... Get tested first... I know it's hard to find a doc that will do the correct tests... most will only do TSH, which, sad to say, once you are on replacement hormone doesn't really tell you squat... you NEED to test both Free T3 and Free T4.... Free T4 will tell you if you have enough T4 in your system... T4 is the storage hormone.... Free T3 will tell you how well your body is converting the T4 to T3... So if you are on a T4 only med, like Synthroid.. it only seems logical that you need to be testing both Free T4 and Free T3 to see how your body is responding to the Synthroid. So.. with the results of the Frees testing you need to know where in their ranges your levels fall.... without getting into specifics, we will later.... Free T3 should be higher in it's range than the Free T4 is in it's range... if it's not that is most likely because your body is not converting enough of the T4 storage hormone into the active T3 hormone. If you are already doing things to promote conversion... avoiding soy, and HFCS, adding selenium, eating mini meals and the conversion still isn't good.. the questions become: Is your dose to small to give you enough T4 to work with? Is your body not able to convert the synthetic T4 to usable T4 (remove the sodium)? Is your body just not happy with synthetic, period? Does your body no longer have the ability to convert efficiently and you need to add direct T3 (like Cytomel or switching to natural)? Before you can answer any of the questions you need to see your frees. For now... I'm still not thrilled with seeing your TSH over 3.0... along with your symptoms it's showing that your body is still short on hormone.... Check out this site.. it has a great chart showing how they came up with the new TSH ranges... how most normal healthy folks have a TSH of 1.25.... showing just how high yours being over three, along with your symptoms... is.... http://www.thyroid.org.au/Information/NormalTSH.html Will you have internet access while you're on your trip? Guest guest
oh my god, i love the queen of clean! she has a book that is actually 3 books in 1- section on organizing is great, and there is a whole part for stain removal- recipes for removing literally every kind of stain. she's a hoot! she also uses vinegar for alot of cleaning, and i saw her clean wood floors with tea- brew and cool the tea and use it as is. she can do a house top to bottom with no chemicals. she's great. i wonder if she has a website??? > > > I watched a TV show on DIY (Do-It-Yourself Network) called " The Queen of Clean " (she has books out by the same name) and this woman is incredible. > RE: Bicarb... > > > I just used it to clean my cupboards out.. you had inspired me ! I find that I'm not requiring naps as much, or at least not for as long. > RE: Bicarb... > > > I just used it to clean my cupboards out.. you had inspired me ! Guest guest
but it requires more elbow grease than I have to give! , I understand what you are saying, but then I was in your boat.. then I was told, the less you do , the less you can.. and I use it as my mantra.. I keep pushing.. gently, but pushing, my old body to do, do , do.. when some friends told me ‘ you are not 21 any more, don’t try to do these things, I was outraged.. they want me to lay down & die ???? If my muscles don’t get used, they will waste away.. and I really will be stuffed. I use every thing I do as exercise, to lose weight, to tone my muscles, & it IS true.. if we just lie down ( like I used to !! , to be fair) you just get weaker & weaker.. just rubbing things, then resting , doing the washing up by hand… run upstairs instead of walk… etc etc.. they will all help to stop us turning into a blancmange. Guest guest
Wow, thank you so much, ! You're awesome. This whole group is awesome! I'm so glad I thought to check yahoo groups, though I think sooner or later I would have found this, because the books I'm reading mention the about.com newsgroup, and some of you are on it, too. Maybe I'll print this out and take it to my doc. She's terrific at reading things I bring to her. I think I'm going to be very glad I requested to go back to her when they switched me to someone else (my original PCM was Dr. Swanson, and he got transferred, so they put me with Dr. Sumandan, who I didn't feel knew squat beyond the 10 minutes in med school about thyroid, but Dr. ...she's the one who diagnosed me and was very good). So...maybe I'll hoard info and take it to her after our vacation. Oh, and yes, I'll have internet access through the vacation, but might have to go no-mail or digests so my inbox doesn't overflow and stop sending messages. I do at least have an initial value for FT4 (0.58) from September 9. I swear I thought I saw more values, like the T3 Uptake, in the computer when I first looked at them. I need to give Dr. a call and double-check that. Re: Bicarb...
Guest guest
Really??? I have a horrible ant problem! I live in eastern NC and we have ants here like crazy. They have been steadily invading my kitchen countertop for about 2 months now, and I've tried everything from terro baits, to caulking up seams, to spraying outside, and nothing keeps them away. PineSol used to work, it erases their "tracks" so they get confused and leave, but not this year. So, how do I do it? Do I just clean with a borax solution, or sprinkle the powder where I see them and they eat it, or what? RE: Bicarb... I just used it to clean my cupboards out.. you had inspired me ! J Much better than any commercial cleaner…

Guest guest
I know all about wasting away muscles. I had mono and it took me 2 years to get over it, partly I think due to the fact that I did just roll over and give up for a while, I was too exhausted to do anything. I eased slowly back into life though, and slowly but surely, got back on my feet. I've read there are many links between mono, steroids (they put me on two sets of steriods during the mono to build me back up so I could feel well enough to function). Guest guest
Just don't over do things, , as you are feeling better... give your body a chance to get stronger.... ease into being more active, okay? .. Yes, not too much… not too little.. it is hard to get the balance right, as I have overdone it occasionally then take a week to stop aching ! Too much rest on the other hand and we don’t release those feel good endorphins that athletes get high on !
Guest guest
Mmmm endorphins...I miss those! My treadmill, which has been collecting dust since about 3 days after I began synthroid (felt like superwoman those first few days, then it waned sadly) is looking so tempting right now. Should I wait until I stop needing naps to get on it? Maybe just a short walk at a very low speed.... RE: Bicarb...
