Guest guest
Dr. Bledsoe, WOW, you can take this several ways. Is this guy looking to be flamed? I do believe he needs to be educated of what we do, from the start up, billing, runs (bad and good), and the most important individual. When asked I always summarize our business is that, " There are things in this world God should not let a human being see, but through intense help we make it another day. " I know this doesn't include our many other task as education and promoting EMS, I find it usually quites them. Guest guest
" No One thinks of a Ambulance (EMS) until they need one............. nor do they want to pay for one with their tax dollars. Unfortunately, this thought process is alive and well in Texas. How do we deal with it? Just keep plugging away and educating your public officials. They will pay either way, be it by paying the privates that they have no control over or as a provider through the fire department, hospital, city or county department. It takes a while for people to understand what they will receive for their money. Of course sometimes they will never understand. Don't give up, keep trying. Guest guest
Notice his quote.... " Something like that can eat you up real quick, " Autery said. " One of the doctors I talked to told me (EMS) was a real wasteful thing that needed to be privatized. " He's taking someone else's opinion as his own. He needs to spend sometime learning (an we say rideouts) about the entity that he has some oversight on as a county official in order to form his own opinion. I wonder what his opinion is about the other emergency services funded by County. Of course, this says a lot about the opinion of some of the local medical community...who I'm sure would love to transfer their practice from the nice, clean, comfortable office when they see patients during waking hours to a small, cramped upside vehicle in a creek at 2 a.m. Just my cynical thoughts, Barry NOTE: The Texas Department of Health (TDH) has merged with other agencies and is now part of the new Department of State Health Services (DSHS), resulting in the following e-mail address format change for all employees: firstname.lastname@.... Guest guest
Remember, most county commissioners care about two things -- taxes and their road barns (I.E. big pretty yellow machinery). Anything besides that doesn't register in their brain. Just my cynical $0.02 on the nature of rural politicians. -Wes

Guest guest
No! He'll blame the poor administrator of the system for not having more volunteers, ambulances, or something. Guest guest
I have to agree with Larry, I have first hand knowledge of this being the County Parks Director for Tom Green County. Also Most Commissioners Have a tendency to start their mouths without engaging their brain.
