Funny thing happened to me back in 1997. I had toenail surgery and was

directed by the podiatrist to do twice a day foot soaks in betadine that he

gave me. In previous yrs, I had done betadine douches on occasion, plus had

used mercuracone (sp?) to disinfect wounds, even as a child. It never

bothered me during those yrs, but I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (which

I would find out later was caused by Hashi's antibodies) in 1993, and had

not used any medicinal iodine since way before that. The first time that I

put my two feet into that mild solution of betadine and warm water (about a

half ounce for an entire gallon of water), my feet began to burn clear up to

where the water came up on my ankles, just like someone had put a branding

iron on me. The water was warm, not hot. After going through this twice, I

called the doctor and told him. He said, and I quote, " You're definitely

allergic to the iodine, use acetic acid instead. " I forget what it was

called, but the acetic acid was in a powder form and never bothered my skin

at all. Since then, I've not been able to use iodine at all, but I never

associated what I was sprinkling on my food with it, until a couple of yrs

ago, at which time I switched to Baleine Noniodized Sea Salt. Says it has

no iodine in it at all. I'm wondering how much the iodine allergy has to do

with Hashi's antibodies. It's a mystery, huh? I read, then skimmed the

rest of this article, but it seems that nothing ever addresses the mysteries

of iodine and Hashi's antibodies to the thyroid hormone.

Read the other link I posted form Thyroid manager..it states

something like 10% of those with Hashi's have an antibody to

Iodine..it is something called -NIS?

I know now I can tell when I do a slip and digest Iodine..I have

always been allergic to MSG so maybe that has something to do with it

too?
