okay, so i just got lab results back and am disappointed to say...

they are NORMAL???

free t3- 319 (normal 230-420)

free t4- 1.6 (normal 0.8-1.8)

tsh- 2.4

umm, so why am i losing my hair and feel awful? nurse says it must be

stress. haha, i cant even estimate how many times i have heard that

over the years. is this a standard substitution for " we don't know " ? i

am fairly new here, so i would like to add that i suffered from

hashimoto's and had thyroidectomy. i know my body enough to say that

every complaint i have right now mimics a hypo problem. any ideas or

suggestions? maybe it's time to try that armour i see so many messages

praising? coconut oil? i could cry, i am so blown away by my labs. i

honestly expected a med adjustment, a little tweak or new med to make

me feel good, you know? i have 2 small children to chase around and

just want to get back to 'normal'. i do feel a bit better since

changing back to synthroid from the generics a couple of weeks ago,

but thats when i starting pulling clumps of hair out from the root.

yuck, so confusing. lol

Well, your labs are in " normal " range, but obviously

that's not where your numbers need to be. Your free

T3 needs to be in the upper end to just over the top

of the range so it could stand to be higher, but your

free T4 looks pretty good since it's close to the top.

Your TSH is still too high since you are still having

symptoms. Are you taking a selenium supplement? It

looks like you need a little help converting your T4

to T3 and selenium will help with that, or you need to

add some T3 to your medication. I personally switched

from Synthroid to Armour while in the " normal " range

and I feel a good bit better. I could still stand to

tweak my dose up a bit, but I feel better and my

eyebrows have filled back in quite a bit.

Ummm No, at least not if you know what the numbers, along with your systems, are saying.

Your Frees are showing that your conversion is inadequate and that you need an increase. If conversion were better, the Free T3 would be up more and the T4 would, of course drop, calling for an increase in Synthroid.

They should have increased your dosage. IMHO.

Judging by the less than terrific conversion..... Armour might be a good direction to go.

How are you taking the Synthroid, remind us....

Empty stomach? Avoiding calcium and iron around dosing time.... Eliminating soy and high fructose corn syrup from your diet....

.... arrrrrggghhhhh stupid ignorant docs....

shall i start checking labels? i did ask doc specifically about

adding cytomel, which was blown off with these labs. i am kind of

leary of increasing the synthroid anymore than it is. i should

probably mention that during my 1st pregnancy 6 years ago, my meds

peaked at 200 mcg, up to 350 last pregnancy. i think its strange

that as years pass my body wants or needs more, more, more.

pharmacist says he's never seen anyone on more than 350 lol. is

there a point where you cant increase anymore? i think that i will

definitely stop allowing my pcp to handle my meds. also, somebody

here mentioned taking a basal temp daily? i'm not sure what that

tells, but i am going to begin doing it and posting results up here.

also wondering- are some docs hesitant to prescribe armour?
