Kitchenaid mixer - again!

Hi,

I am chiming in on the mixer issue. I have had the heavy duty bowl lift model

for 24 years. It still runs

perfectly. However, my son wants a

mixer so I decided to pass mine to him and try a new model. I got the professional 5 qt model from Sam’s

for Christmas. I finally tried it

out today and am pretty disappointed right now. It is SO extremely loud with a high

pitched whine. It also seems to

have a hitch in it’s get-along as it goes round

the bowl. It is not a perfectly

smooth continuous motion as the beater goes around. It doesn’t hit anything but doesn’t

sound even. My resident engineers

feel that doesn’t bode well for it’s

longevity.

For those of you that have this model (and have tried it if

it is new!), is this the way it is supposed to be? My old one ran around as smooth as

butter. It was a loud motor but

nothing like the whine this one has. I can’t decide if this is just a

matter of getting used to a new machine – change doesn’t come

easily for me! – or if I have a lemon.

Any input out there?

Thanks in advance.

Becky

They don't make them like they used to. Try to get old faithful back from

your son, and exchange your whiner for one that's at least civilized and

pass it on to him.

I just bought it today!!!! I am thrilled! I used it for a cake mix and it wasn't loud or thumpy at all. I did have to have DH adjust the height because the paddle was initially hitting the bottom of the bowl. So be sure the paddle is adjusted to the correct height!

Re: Kitchenaid mixer - again!

I have the Costco KA Pro, which I gather is the same as the Sam's Club one. It is definitely loud, and it does sometimes thump as it goes around the bowl (but not always). I chose it primarily because of Costco's lifetime no-questions-asked return policy. (And no, I don't have any financial interest in Costco :)) I do use several of the attachments with it, which was an additional selling point. I've had mine since last May and haven't had any other issues with it.Sue in Denver

I can't comment on Kitchen aid in particular, but I bought an

immersion blender from Walmart which died within a year --- whereas

these usually last for years and years ---, so it may be that Walmart

just doesn't get as good quality as the usual ones...?

Amazon has good prices, I've noticed. I'm sure other places on the

internet if you search.

What an awesome policy – I didn’t

know about that. I was a little afraid

Sam’s wouldn’t take this back because my dh

purchased it over 30 days before. But,

they did with no questions asked. I am

going to try again with a new box when they come in. In the meantime, I will keep driving myself

nuts researching it!!!

This gives me hope that mine really was a

lemon! Mine was incredibly loud and it

had a bit of a hiccup in the rotation without the paddle. I am looking forward to trying again with a

new one. I hope I get one like yours!
