Hi ,

Let me start by saying it does and WILL get better. You are in the

thick of it right now, and after the first week, it gets better.

Feeling better is a slow process but soon you will realize that you

feel a bit better than yesterday, etc. You have to take it one hour

at a time, I'm afraid.

You are probably nauseous and dizzy from not drinking enough as well

as taking the nasty meds. I know it is not easy eating, especially

while you are nauseous. I struggled with this after both of my jaw

surgeries. My recommendation is to try to up the amount of liquids

you are taking. You do not want to get dehydrated. If you can't

take liquids, call the surgeon for some anti-nausea meds. They make

them in suppository form so you don't have to swallow them.

It's interesting that you mention nightmares. Just prior to my

second surgery and afterwards, right up until now, I had developed an

anxiety problem. I was so nervous preop that I didn't eat much for a

week. That hindered my recovery the second time around. I was

pretty anxious the first week postop, too, but couldn't figure out

why. I kept rationalizing that the surgery was over, I survived,

I've done it before and it will be ok, yet I would wake with panic

attacks, not knowing what was triggering them. I have had about 1

each month for the past four months. I spoke with a family doctor

about it and he said it is not unusual to go through such a trying

ordeal and not have lingering memories, thoughts, dreams,

subconscious stuff. He was pretty optimistic that it would fade out

on its own. Your dreams are normal. You've been through a very

difficult ride, regardless of how routine your surgeon may have told

you it was (mine acted like it was no big deal ... I'd like to put

him through it ;)

Best of luck and hang in there. The worst is almost over.
