Guest guest
My husband and I both had mouth ulcers before gluten free. They sometimes recur if we get accidentally glutened. It's more than coincidance. Jupiter, FL mouth ulcers In the past I got mouth ulcers ALL the time. Gosh, it seemed like onewould heal and two more would pop up. I consulted the dentist. He wasstumped. He said "See your doctor." I consulted the doctor. He wasstumped and said "See your dentist." And so I was often swishing withnasty stuff to keep the pain down, swabbing with nasty stuff to coatand protect, avoiding all acidic foods, and just wishing they'd hurryup and go away already. Oh, and no kissing. In the recent past, I've learned that this is one non-intestinalmanifestation of celiac. Since going gluten-free, I hadn't had a mouthulcer. Hooray! But this weekend I got glutened. (Gosh darn restaurant dining. GoingGF has taken almost ALL the joy out of restaurant dining for me. I canstill enjoy that my family enjoys restaurant dining. But *I* no longerenjoy restaurant dining. I digress.)Anyway... this past weekend I got glutened. And last night I got areally nasty mouth ulcer. Man, it hurts! I'd almost forgotten howbadly those things hurt. Coincidence? Or cause? Guest guest
I usually don't get the mouth ulcers either since going gluten free and it took 53 years for them to diagnose me. But when I get a cold or the flu, then the mouth ulcers come back, but not as bad as before GF. Shirleyesther_p210 wrote: In the past I got mouth ulcers ALL the time. Guest guest
Hi Ester, My kids used to get really bad mouth ulcers, in fact, that was really the only symptom my daughter had. They were brutal! Needless to say, since being GF, she's never had one again! I read on a website that they are most definately a sign of celiac, and if you have a child who presents with cronic ulcers, they should be tested for celiac...not that the doctor would take you seriously, of course! I think it was on the University of Chicago site, and they had pictures, which convinced me to test the kids! I hope you're feeling better soon. One thing that really works is to swish half liquid Benadryl and half milk of magnesia in your mouth several times a day. If the lesions are on the corner of your mouth, you can swab it on...it really helps! Dana, Gloriously GF esther_p210 wrote: In the past I got mouth ulcers ALL the time.
