Guest guest
Here is an article that talks about the finding of a study where being overweight is also associated with celiac disease. http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/317/7168/1290 "Our study suggests that a minority of patients with villous atrophy fit the obviously malnourished stereotype and that the possibility of coeliac disease should not be discounted in overweight patients." I am better, but I fell I don't absorb any supplements when I take them. I think my body still thinks its starving for certain things (not the macro-nutrients). I would love to hear from the experience of overweight celiacs who have been gf for a long time- my weight help me evade diagnosis for years. At least three drs. told me they'd check me for celiac, but they don't see it in overweight people. I finally found a dr. who said, "The data is changing...." and did the biopsy as part of an endoscopy that I had to have for other things. It was my third endoscopy in 10 years (that's a lot when you consider I'm only 38), but my first biopsy for celiac. > >Reply-To: SillyYaks >To: sillyyaks >Subject: decrease in wt. when going gf >Date: Tue, 3 Jan 2006 17:29:18 -0800 (PST) > >I also lost wt. after years of feeling hungry all the time. Guest guest
LOL! That's how I feel too! Although I know it's just as frustrating to not be able to gain weight either. It's just more socially acceptable. ) --Trudy San , CA "People who believe in absurdities will eventually commit atrocities." ~Voltaire --------- decrease in wt. when going gf>Date: Tue, 3 Jan 2006 17:29:18 -0800 (PST)>>I also lost wt. after years of feeling hungry all the time. Guest guest
> > Great, I finally get a disease that causes you to be thin and i remain fat!!! > Doreen No! It means that the doctors never consider celiac in us fatties. One doctor even said to my face - " You can't be a celiac. You're not sick enough. " Um, YOU try " the big D " 10 times a day Every Day from May through September, the itching burning blistering rash from Hell, blood in the bowl that looks like someone stabbed me.... and THEN tell me that you don't think YOU'RE sick enough for celiac. We fatties don't get rightly considered for " the big picture of celiac " because the CLASSIC symptoms are skinny and malnourished. One can be fat and still be malnourished. Waving my hand wildly - " SEE ME! SEE ME! "
