Guest guest
My ds weighed 8 lb 4 oz when born. By the time he was 6 months he weighed 18 lbs. He now only weighs 18 14 1/2 and he has gained nothing in 2 weeks. In the last 4 weeks he has gained only 1 1/2 oz. He is very active. He crawls fully and has been for 1 1/2 month. He also stands up and walks around furniture. He has started solids but still prefers to nurse. He nurses 3-6 times during the day and 3 -6 times at night too. His diet consists of ceral and fruit am w/juice or bm in cup. Then nurse to nap, then nurse when gets up just a little and a cracker. Lunch around 1 or so veg and fruit w/bm sometimes juice, nurse to nap at 2 or 3 then supper around 6 or so w/ veg and fruit and bm sometimes juice. He nurses to sleep and nurses periodically all night long. He gained so much early on I just thought it would continue. I will not give him formula. It is not an option. I want to nurse him for at least 2 years. Is the stop or extreme slow down normal? The doctor said not to be concerned because he is still so chuncky and above average. She believes it is because of his high activity and spirtedness that is stopping his weight gain. Are there anythings I can do to help him along or is this completely normal? Please advise because I am very worried. The doc seems to think he will be a thin toddler because of his spunk and energy. I am very thing 5 8 and 125. My husband is thin too. Thanks in advance for the advise Laurie

Not to be critical, but why in the world would you be following his weight that closely? Is he an ill child? There aren't many reasons to track it that much. His diet sounds fine and this plateau is perfectly normal. If you weigh the baby monthly or every other month you can track the weight gain. If you see absolutely no gain (I mean 0 ounces) or a loss of more than a half a pound after two weight checks consult your doctor. Otherwise RELAX! Guest guest
, You are very kind. I am trying really hard to do things different for him and accommodate his temperament. My Dad thinks I am spoiling him but I feel I am giving him all he needs or at least I am trying. Laurie Re: Weight gain has stopped at 7 1/2 months > spirtedness that is stopping his weight gain. As they become more activethey burn off those calories that used to just sit there making him nice andbig! My son (who is 21 mos now) was 21 lbs at 6 mos and only 25 lbs at 1 yr!All because he was (and still is!) very active!!You are doing great, give him a hug!Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com
Guest guest
Alana, I am following it because I never BF before and I wanted to track his weight for his baby book. We are very attached and I know nothing is physically wrong. I just want to make sure he is getting enough. Guest guest
Laurie, I think your DS is just not gaining because of his activity level--which is normal for his age. The only thing that I saw in what you wrote about your son's diet is the juice. If you are concerned about weight gain, only give him ebm in his cup. He doesn't really need juice at his age, and there are more calories and nutrients in bm. Welcome, Amy Lynn SAHM to 2.5 y and 5.5 mo

Guest guest
Thanks Amy, I have cut the juice back but on hot days he really wants juice ipo of warm bm. I don't give him much of it though and discourage it whenever possible. Thanks againLaurie Re: Weight gain has stopped at 7 1/2 months Laurie,I think your DS is just not gaining because of his activity level--which isnormal for his age.
