Guest guest
Hi everyone, Went to see my oral surgeon on Friday for a check-up. Got great news!! Don't have to wear any elastics anymore. Had been worried about my nose since surgery but was waiting to see if it might be the swelling. Doctor looked at it and believes it is a deviated septum. He believes that it probably happened during recovery. I was in a lot of distress and vomiting and most likely hit the tubes quite hard. My septum is pushed over to one side and I can't breathe out of that nostril. He said that he could not do anything about it until I heal. I am so upset about this as i don't want to go through anything else!!! Has anyone else experienced this problem or has ever had this procedure done to correct one??? Please Help! Guest guest
Hi , I had a very similar situation. I had upper/lower jaw surgery for an open bite in 2/02. After continuous problems with congestion and difficulty breathing through my nose post-op, my surgeon sent me to an ENT, who said I had a severely deviated septum and needed surgery to correct it. As far as I know, I did not have this problem pre-op, but have not received a specific explanation about how this might have happened during or after the jaw surgery. My nasal surgery was done in 12/02. I can probably answer some specific questions for you. In general, the nasal surgery was much quicker (outpatient vs. 3 nights in the hospital); was more painful than the jaw surgery during the first 3 days post-op; and had a much quicker immediate result (at 6 days post-op, the result was obvious, rather than the jaw surgery, whose results developed slowly). Try doing a search under " deviated septum, " " septoplasty, " or " nasal septal reconstruction " as I have written about this before but have not come across anyone with a similar result until now. I'd be glad to answer any questions. Take care, Sandy > > > Hi everyone, > > Went to see my oral surgeon on Friday for a check-up. Got great > news!! Don't have to wear any elastics anymore.
