Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have done all my pre-op testing and been back to see Dr Thayer today. I have lost 6 of the 10 lbs he wanted and he seemed pleased ( I had one week to do it). My surgery is one week from tomorrow and I'm very scared and anxious. I guess I'm worried about the pain mostly and how I will manage once I'm home. How many days of extreem pain, 2 or 3? C

Guest guest
Hi , I too was very anxious the week before my surgery. I would think most are. As for the pain. I think it varies with everyone. I feared that also but I can honestly say there was never a time that I thought the pain was extreme. The medication really helps. If it isn't helping you just have to the doctor and they will increase it or change it. I found myself very uncomfortable the first 2 days home. Sleeping the first night home was very difficult. You can't lay flat, at least I couldn't. I slept propped up on a few big pillows. My third night home I got a much better night sleep. I kind of prepared myself for the worse and maybe that is why I didn't think it was as horrible as I imagined. They have really neat beds that are special for this kind of surgery. The bed sits up into a chair so it makes it much easier to get in and out of it. I am just curious if others that had surgery somewhere other than Newton-Whellesley.............did they have special new beds for you. Kind of neat also that they have a wide chair in the room to sit at and wide wheel chairs. Someone finally is catering to us instead of looking down on us for our size. I liked that. Awesome job losing 6 pounds. Donna

I'm not sure what bed you're talking about, but they had me in the bed that basically stands you up without any effort on your part. Great idea, but I found it was the most uncomfortable bed I had ever slept in. The day after my surgery, I asked them (nicely, of course), to get me a REAL hospital bed! And they did. And my stay was much better because of it. That's just my opinion...I found it very uncomfortable. As for the wide chair in the room, they didn't have one initially, but I asked, and they got me one. When it was discharge time, I did get the big-boy wheelchair, though. Pretty cool! ;-) Jeff ~If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?~
Guest guest
- You will probably go through a whole range of emotions and feelings in this next week, and I don't think anyone would disagree that this is completely NORMAL. Before you know it, though, it will be over, and you'll be home, and you'll be recuperating, and you'll feel much better about it. If you need anything, let me know. Guest guest
thanks Jeff! We need to have that mini support meeting here on the south shore. Maybe if we do it just once a month? C

Guest guest
, the best advice I got re pain was from one of the docs.... don't try and be a here... take the pain meds on a regular basis befor the pain gets ahold of you..... don't try and hold off... it works Cheryl It is bad to suppress laughter; it goes back down and spreads to your hips
