EMSAT's Comments on National Scope of Practice

EMSAT has sent its existing position statement to NASEMSD. Our position

statement was developed early on. We were the first group to effectively bring

to the attention of the Texas EMS community the impending changes to scope of

practice. Our position statement was designed to do that, and it succeeded.

Since we formulated that position statement, there has been much debate and

further enlightenment on the subject. Most of us have gone through a learning

process and most of us are still weighing all the ramifications and

alternatives available to us, and attempting to formulate positions.

EMSAT is no different. I expect that EMSAT will update its position

statement and offer further comments to NASEMSD. There have been some

thoughtful

posts and suggestions for improvement posted by EMSAT members and non-EMSAT

members.

EMSAT members should communicate their views directly to one of us on the

Board (you can find us on the website) so that we may know and understand what

you want.

Non-EMSAT members may also contact us and make their views known, and we

listen to everybody, because we want to know what everybody is thinking.

However, the views of our membership carry the weight when it comes time to

formulate a formal position.

I urge all EMSAT members to send us their positions, suggestions, and views

on the SOP so that we can accurately reflect the desires of our membership when

formulating our next document.

EMSAT will express its position both to GETAC and to NASEMSD.

If you are not a member of EMSAT, why not? We are your voice in these

controversies. If you care about your future in EMS and are not a member,

join.

Best,

Gene Gandy
