Guest guest
Gene, Would EMSAT mind posting there comments to this list much like EMSAC (Colorado) did? Thanks Jim< _____ From: wegandy1938@... Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2004 8:05 PM To: Subject: EMSAT's Comments on National Scope of Practice EMSAT has sent its existing position statement to NASEMSD. Our position statement was developed early on. We were the first group to effectively bring to the attention of the Texas EMS community the impending changes to scope of practice. Our position statement was designed to do that, and it succeeded. Since we formulated that position statement, there has been much debate and further enlightenment on the subject. Most of us have gone through a learning process and most of us are still weighing all the ramifications and alternatives available to us, and attempting to formulate positions. EMSAT is no different. I expect that EMSAT will update its position statement and offer further comments to NASEMSD. There have been some thoughtful posts and suggestions for improvement posted by EMSAT members and non-EMSAT members. EMSAT members should communicate their views directly to one of us on the Board (you can find us on the website) so that we may know and understand what you want. Non-EMSAT members may also contact us and make their views known, and we listen to everybody, because we want to know what everybody is thinking. However, the views of our membership carry the weight when it comes time to formulate a formal position. I urge all EMSAT members to send us their positions, suggestions, and views on the SOP so that we can accurately reflect the desires of our membership when formulating our next document. EMSAT will express its position both to GETAC and to NASEMSD. If you are not a member of EMSAT, why not? We are your voice in these controversies. If you care about your future in EMS and are not a member, join. Best, Gene Gandy Vice President (for one more day) EMSAT E.(Gene) Gandy POB 1651 Albany, TX 76430 wegandy1938@... Guest guest
EMSAT POSITION ON NATIONAL EMS SCOPE OF PRACTICE MODEL August 11, 2004 It is the position of the Emergency Medical Services Association of Texas that the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, as presently constructed, is unacceptable and would, if implemented, cause an immediately detrimental effect upon the delivery of EMS in Texas. EMSAT opposes any EMS Scope of Practice which would limit the ability of individual EMS Medical Directors to determine the skills to be performed by any level of EMS certificant/licensee practicing under their supervision. EMSAT opposes changing the levels of certification/licensure of EMS personnel in Texas, and EMSAT further opposes the elimination of the EMT-Intermediate certification. EMSAT opposes any change in statute or regulation which would set the minimum requirement for ambulance staffing in Texas at two Emergency Medical Technicians due to the severe hardship that such a change would cause in rural and frontier areas. EMSAT opposes the imposition of any requirement that limits advanced paramedic practice to those persons with a college degree in EMS. EMSAT supports minimum levels of practice for each certification/license level but opposes any maximum level of practice for any level of practice, if such practice is permitted by an EMS provider's Medical Director.
