How should I confront my ortho/

I am feeling pretty upset now about my ortho adjusting Isabelle's

helmet from the get go to a passive helmet. When I call them tomorrow

I don't want to get too upset with them. So I was just wondering if

you guys maybe had some suggestions on how I should go about

confronting her. I feel as though she should know being an ortho that

Isabelle would benefit more from an active band being she is 6 months

old. Should I ask for them to put her in an active band or should I

just wait to see how the passive works for her. It has only been a

week and a day since we have had the helmet. But if she should be in

an active one then I don't want to waste any time getting her one. I

just wish that they would have told me first that they were going to

do this and why. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

:I know I'm not , but I have a couple of suggestions :-)I'd go to the OrthoAmerica site and see what they say there about STARbands and treament expectations, etc., and then ask her questions based on what they state is the typical treatment cycle. I know you are upset -- but the best you can do is be informed, and just ask questions and listen carefully to her answers. They've done a lot of babies -- and if you put her on the defensive she may not be willing to answer you as forthright as if you tell her you are confused about the information that is on the OrthoAmerica site, and how it relates to your baby's treatment. What was the original prescription for? Who gave it to you? Did the Ortho give it to you, or a pediatrician or another specialist? Call that person, too, to find out what was originally prescribed and why if it wasn't the Ortho.Good luck.aka "Kali

I agree with Kali. Check out the Orthomerica website. Why don't you

email them and ask about band modification? Hopefully you will have

better luck than I with getting a reply from them.

You may also want to ask the ortho what exactly was done to the band

before you arrived for Isabelle's fitting. Explain that it is much

thinner than the average STARband.

Hi ,

I have a wicked Italian temper, so you're asking the wrong person. lol

Seriously though, you can tell her you were on Orthomerica's website

looking around. You saw picture's of banded babies and you read that

it's an active band. Ask her why your dd's is different and if it's

been modified at all. If she says yes ask her why. Ask her why she

told you it was passive. Tell her you dd's band isn't even pictured on

Orthomerica's website! If she really has as much experience as she

says and has done 400 something bands, she'd know your baby would

benefit more from an active band. Demand answers if you have to. This

is your baby we're talking about. You have every right to know what is

up w/your dd's band. You paid this lady to provide you w/a service you

have every right to question her. Good luck and let us know how you

make out.

BTW , if you really want Isabelle to have an active band make

sure that the ortho has experience working with bands that aren't

modified. You wouldn't want Isabelle to be her guinea pig.

Good point .

If the ortho did modify it w/o 's consent, shouldn't she be

entitled to a new band?

She was told her dd's band was a STARband, STARbands are active, her

dd's isn't active. So then what is it??
