Guest guest
I see. You are probably way ahead of me on this. I just couldn't see why -ectomy couldn't be applied. I seemed that it was spelled out correctly. Ken Word help, please This patient is having preop cataract surgery and the doc dictates that she is having a " pterygiectomy " , but I can't document that word. Guest guest
Karla, Since Ramona has typed it as pterygium removal in the past and the place where you found pterygiectomy is actually at a medical school in Turkey, I think I would be more inclined to go with pterygium removal than with pterygiectomy. I have checked all of my Stedman's word books that are even closely related (surgery, ophthalmology, etc.) and have not been able to find anything even close to pterygiectomy. Just my 2 cents. Margaret >>> " Karla Hilbourn " 01/21/03 06:33PM >>> Ramona: I'm not a verbatim account. I couldn't get an answer out of this company if I pulled teeth, so I never know whether I'm right or wrong. I did find " pterygiectomy " on a Google search. It says: " Intraoperative or postoperative use of mitomycin C is one of the treatment options to reduce the recurrence of pterygia. Scleral necrosis, a potentially blinding complication after mitomycin C use, has been among great concern in ophthalmic practice. A patient is presented in whom scleral necrosis developed 20 days after a pterygiectomy with bare sclera technique was performed, followed by the application of 0.4 mg/mL of topical mitomycin C eye drops for 3 weeks.
