Guest guest
Like Barb, I am counting my many blessings at the moment. But that still doesn't seem to stop me whining about bureaucracies. I have decided that being treated at two hospitals and three doctor's offices at opposite ends of the state requires that I keep my own parallel medical records, so I can supply whatever copies the other places fail to forward, a regular ocurrence. I wanted a copy of a recent ultrasound done at the local hospital. I asked my local PCPs office. I was told they HAVE the report but cannot GIVE it to me, because that would be " releasing it to a third party " . I wanted to say, honey, I AM the party girl, the party of the first part, there's no partay without me! They insisted I had to call the hospital for a copy. In spite of the release form for all my future records to me, they also told me I need to make a new request for each thing, they won't release it automatically. GAH! They do NOT make this easy. Later my PCP called with some other test results and said not to bother about the hospital, he'd photocopy it himself and send it to me. So it was just a little thorn in the roses. So have any of you run into this problem, that you cannot get your own records from the PCP's office and have to chase it down at a third site? Interestingly, when I was in the ER last month, the ER doc was impressed at my binder of records. He said that in Israel, they hand you copies of everything and tell you to take it with you to appointments- the patient has custody of the complete medical record. Could lead to back strain for some of us! Seems like they make it extra hard to follow this model in the US. Sorry, just had to vent a bit! Guest guest
Thanks for this complaint. I was beginning to think it was me. I just started to collect my records on PSC stuff and already am having trouble. I have just signed a release from the hospital, lets see if this works. I am used to going to an alternative specialist and a DO and I always got a copy of all lab reports handed to me at all appointments and a signed report of everything we talked about from each appointment so this difficulty is really new to me. Marsha PSC and UC 06. HIPAA- aarrgghh!!

Guest guest
Martha I live in Israel and I indeed keep my own medical file at home, including x-rays and everything. Unfortunately I recently had to upgrade to a thicker file, but thats all in the game with PSC I am afraid. Was the ER doc an Israeli?
