I am kind of in the same situation that is. Our sons are 1

day apart and we met each other on the CAPPS cranio board. My son was

sent for a CT back on 12/2 due to a ridge on his forehead and xrays

showing that his metopic suture appeared to be completely fused. After

the plastic surgeon reviewed the CT, she said that he has almost

complete fusing of his metopic suture (not really cranio at this

point, but something we really have to watch because he has some

triangulation of his forehead) and a flat spot right behind his left

ear, which has caused ear assymetry. She also said that is what caused

him to have the ridge in the first place. He has been in his helmet

(unfortunately a passive one at this point because our insurance does

not cover active bands yet...we have NC medicaid right now with no

other insurance...and we cannot afford the hanger band or the doc band

at all right now. We take him back to the PS on 2/14 and hopefully

will have some improvement. Unfortunately, I had to remove the helmet

for 2 days due to a severe bruise right where the helmet presses when

he is sleeping. He fell and hit his head (without the helmet on) and

could not tolerate it until the bruise healed. I know I am rambling,

but I wanted to let everyone know that it is normal for there to be a

ridge and it not necessarily be cranio or a problem. The plastic

surgeon that my son sees is supposed to be one of the best in the

state. She works at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and

Brenners' Childrens Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

I know that this is a long post, and I am sorry if I rambled, but it

is a complex story and wanted to try to elaborate enough for you to

see that does not necessarily have a " rare " situation!

Have a good weekend everyone!!
