Good to have you back! I miss your timely responses, but can identify with

the on-line/off-line thing . . . some days it's just too much to try and

sit here, let alone read and type. I've been so fortunate in that this

Effexor seems to be working wonders. For the past 4 months I've had that

Thrush or Thrush-like thing with my mouth, and the pain has been

bad. However, that's nearly cleared up. Right now about all I'm having

problems with is dealing with what I call " transient " depression . . . deep

depression that lasts anywhere from 8 to 24 hours then goes

away. Frustrating, but not too bad.

Has anyone out there ever experienced sudden constant pain in their ribs .

.. . like they have a broken rib? This came up a few days ago, and if I

cough or sneeze or blow my nose . . . ouch!

OK...so the Pollyanna does complain? :)

Yes, I bend over to tie my shoe or anything that I have to bend over for I

get an awful pain in my ribs. I have to stand as straight as I can and then

bend backward to get it to go away. This has come up before so it might be

another one of those things that you can get with fibro. One of those that

no one tells you about. :-))

Is this on both sides, or just one side? And do you still have your

gallbladder? I was having a bad problem with feeling like a rib was broken

and was " poking " me on my lower ribcage on the right - this went on for

several years, with my doctor dismissing it as nothing. (even with 3 or 4

ER visits) I ended up having to have an emergency gallbladder removal last

May when it got so bad that I thought I had broken ribs and was having a

heart attack! I do still have a " catch " in the muscles around my ribs on

both sides if I lean forward, but I think that's more a muscular problem -

it's relieved by leaning backward or to the opposite side to stretch the

muscles back out...

Do you know if you have GERD with your hiatal hernia? Are you on any

medications for your digestive system. Many times, hiatal hernia can cause

reflux and acid in your esophagus, which can cause the pain you're

describing in your ribs. Feel free to right to me offlist if you're

interested in more information about this and/or a link for a good e-mail

list that might be able to help you out.

Hi I'm back again.

What is GERD?

Yes I do have medication for the Hiatus Hernia which I

take regularly and I have control over my diet for it

as well. This pain in the left side as been on and off

for quite some time, I tried to ignore it as I

thought i was just a muscle pain, then I became really

bad in the hospital and was diagnosed an solution

which aneathetised the stomach instantly and that

helped for a bit. I just have to wait for the reslults

of my tests and will write again.

God bless

Lorraine UK

Thankyou.

Hi Lorraine,

GERD is gastro-esophogeal reflux disease. The symptoms are heartburn, food

refluxing back up from your stomach, sometimes difficulty swallowing,

inability to eat certain foods without it causing distress or pain, being

awakened during the night with heartburn. Sometimes it can be treated with

diet and lifestyle modifications, sometimes certain medications help

(usually Proton Pump Inhibitors - PPIs - like Aciphex, Protonix, Prevacid,

Nexium, etc), and sometimes surgery is indicated. It's potentially a

serious condition if left untreated, as the acid burns the lining of your

esophagus, causing the cells to change. It can be diagnosed through

symptoms alone, or through use of an esophogeal scope. If you find that

you're having particular difficulty swallowing, eating certain foods, or

are taking lots of antacids, then you probably need to be checked out.

Hope this helps!!

Bright Blessings

That happens to me a lot. It feels like a muscle

pokes through my ribs. My sister, who is kind of

a hypochondriac, described the same thing and

told me it was her liver poking through. Well, I

told her that I got that but I didn't think it

was my liver. I bend over to do something and,

wow, I have to stand up fast to get it to stop

hurting.
