Guest guest
Hi it's great you're doing it early and your doctor supports you. However I waited for insurance and lost 6 + precious weeks. My son was about the same age as your son and he's just getting his DOCband next week. If you can I'd start with Cranial Tech in the meantime and not wait because if you're set on going with Cranial Tech your insurance may not cover it as mine didn't. They only covered a starband and not a DOCband and I wanted the DOCband. So after losing all the time I'm paying for it anyway. It's $3000 for the band and all visits and adjustments. I wish you the best of luck! Sherry Chase (6 months) tort DOCbanding 2/17 > > Hello everyone, > > I am new here. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. You can see pictures here in the Photos section. Give CT a call tomorrow for your consultation. They can help you with insurance. Your son is at a great age for amazing correction! DS was severe and got banded at 5 months. He corrected wonderfully! Let us know how it goes! And please feel free to ask questions. Mom to Dane (4 yo) and Cece (13 mo) DOC Grads >> Hello everyone, > > I am new here. Guest guest
I am calling the number they gave me at the Dr's office tomorrow. We don't have a DOCband clinic near us. And we certainly don't have $3000.00 right now. I sure hope our insurance covers this. We are applying for healthy kids NH. We just moved a few months ago and are still getting settled and catching up on money. So as of right now, we're paying his well checkups out of pocket. (unless the insurance will go back and cover it). Do you have to pay ahead of time? Maybe we can get there for the fitting and such and by the time we get it, we'll have our insurance. I am so nervous about this whole thing. I'm not trying to be superficial, but I am worried people will stare. Have any of you worried about the same thing? - (Mommy to Davey) > > > > Hello everyone, > > > > I am new here. Guest guest
Sorry I know how hard the insurance matters are to deal with. If you don't have a DOCband clinic near you were you planning on getting any helmet/band? I know a bit about cranial tech, not too much, I'm sure other know more than me but since my insurance didn't pay they have some payment arrangements that you can work out with them that starts when you do the casting which is the first offical appointment. You can go for a free consult, which is really helpful, even if you can't go with Cranial Tech. They take measurements and pictures and are very informative. I just know myself that losing the time waiting for insurance was awful. If I had it to do over I'd arrange paying myself and then figure out insurance stuff. I don't know how I'll pay it either it's tough but I'll have to manage somehow. I'm up working every night after my son goes to sleep till 3 - 4am but it's worth it to know I did all I could. Get rid of some of the guilt. Since you don't have a cranial tech you should look into the people who help transport for free. I'm not sure if that's an option for you someone will let you know Sherry > > > > > > Hello everyone, > > > > > > I am new here. Guest guest
I'm not sure exactly where. The pedi gave me a phone # to call and he said it's in Lebanon NH. He said when I call to tell them that my son needs a helmet. We just found out today that he's needs one, so I'm still kind of nervous about everything. If I go there and don't feel right about it I will leave. The pedi said he's an infant plastic surgeon so hopefully he'll be good. PS - a weird question, are any of you planning on saving your bands as a " keepsake " of sorts? > > > > > > > > Hello everyone, > > > > > > > > I am new here. Guest guest
When you call the location in NH you need to interview them for experience. What product do they offer? Is it FDA approved? How do they create the " mold " to make the helmet from? cast or scan? (they both have their pros and cons) How long will it take to come in? (less than 2 weeks, prefably 1 week with a child under the age of 6 months) How many new helmets patients do they see each month? Have they treated children your child's age? severity? How long have they done this? What specific training have they had using helmets? (Orthomerica and Hanger both offer specific training classes, CT does weeks of training and then refresher each year) Do you have references? Can you share before and after pictures? how do you document progress? Will you take measurements? How often? How often will the helmet be adjusted? Anything longer than 3 weeks would indicate a passive helmet which may not be the best option. With a 4 month old every week is more likely due to fast growth. How long will he wear it, roughly? What happens if the main ortho is out of town/sick/vacation and you have a problem/concern? As for insurance, you really can't get this started until you know about insurance. If you start they probably won't cover mid-stream. Quite a few state programs do cover helmets. Some private does. The key is to get denied first and the go ahead with treatment while you fight the appeal. mom to na, 2 1/2 years, DOC Grad, tort Resolved Kiersten, 8 months, DOC Band 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi it's great you're doing it early and your doctor supports you. > > > > However I waited for insurance and lost 6 + precious weeks. Guest guest
THANK YOU for all the tips. I'll be sure to write those down and take them to the place with me. I can't wait to get their pack in the mail so I can look it over. I am curious about whether it'll be an open top type or an actual helmet type. I am sending out his application for insurance tomorrow (we just had to wait on DH's pay stub as proof of income), hopefully it'll be all set by March 21st. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello everyone, > > > > > > > > > > > > I am new here.
