Guest guest
What is the going rate for a STARband? I see in various links from this website that it can be anywhere from $1500-$3000. Is this about right? I am asking because Medical Center Brace & Limb in Houston, Texas is charging us $4000! Since insurance normally will deny this type of claim, they required us to put 50% down before they would even order the helmet. We went ahead and did it without question because we wanted to get the band on our son ASAP after we decided to move forward with this line of therapy (he's already 6 1/2 months). Now that we are looking around though, we are wondering if we didn't get ripped on the price. Just wondering what others may know about this, thanks! Guest guest
Hi MDH's Mom, Yes, I'm sorry but I do think you got ripped off. I've never, ever heard of ANY band costing $4000.00! That's outrageous. I would be asking them why is their STARbands SO much more than any where else. Let us know what you find out. Good luck, > > What is the going rate for a STARband? Guest guest
MDH'S Mom, That sounds awfully high, I was under the impression that it ran somewhere between 1500.00 and 3000.00 depending on location and facility. Guest guest
, Does the usual cost of the STARband or other bands that are in the $1500-$3000 range include all scans and any adjustments made? This price they gave us in "all inclusive", and I wonder if this is the difference. I could still be wrong here, but I am trying to reason this out before I go and cause commotion about the price. Guest guest
We got the STARband in the Chicago area 3 months ago. It cost around $3400 - which includes all of the visits (but not the scans). We also have United Health Care and were told by many people that there was little to no chance of them covering the helmet. They did deny the claim and we paid out of pocket. However the Dr. gave us the discounted contracted price and then gave us another discount for paying in full. I think we paid around $1800 out of pocket. The good and VERY surprising news is that we just heard from UHC that they are paying for the helmet. We only have to pay about $400 out of pocket. We never appealed their denial - we had planned on it, but didn't have time to do yet. My husband's HR department at work got involved - and I think that's what did it. Good luck with everything!
