Hi Sheri! I have been having the same trouble. My daughter also was

born with tort and is 8 months old. She is also in physical therapy.

She has a stubborn and strong personality, so she was screaming when

we did the exercises. Today I discovered a way to get her to do the

side rotating exercise. I lie her on her back and I lie on my side

next to her. She looks at me and I reach over and make sure her

shoulder is flat on the ground and hold her head so it is all the way

to the side. She seems to tolerate it best this way. For the " ear to

shoulder " stretch I hold her in a cradle hold with her tummy down. I

make sure my arm is holding her head in the correct position. I hope

this helps and good luck! This kiddos make some things so challenging.

Sheri, we could not get our daughter to do anything - she screamed and we felt

like she

was looking at us like torturers. We did NO exercises the entire time she was

banded

(4.75-8mo). Very occassionally we could hold her on her legs with her head

hanging off

and with dad on the other end of my knees, she would look upside down, but

forget about

the turning L or R. I felt like by forcing her, I could injure her if she

decided to all of a

sudden not resist. We gave up and instead did the exercises once the band was

off and

she was older and more into lil excercise games. Wish I had suggestions..To us

it was not

the end of the world since she was banded for a bit over 2 months. If Kate is

banded

longer I would guess the exercises would be more important. Ask your tech

perhaps?

My daughter is 13 months old now and we had the same screaming issues

when she was about 7-8 months old. We tried the football hold--stand

in front of a mirror while holding her in this hold and my daughter

loved to look at herself. She would even raise her head up further

which stretched even more. We also would lay her on the bed on her

back, gently lift her up by her ankles(she's now hanging upside down)

and let the top of her head touch the bed, and gently bend her neck to

one side(causing the ear to shoulder stretch). She loved hanging and

never realized she was stretching. For the side to side we would just

make her look by playing games or something like that. She absolutely

hates confinement so we had to become creative. Hope these help but

please try and do something. I don't know if you are dealing with any

facial assymetries with your ordeal, but if you are the stretches help

that assymetries alot.

One option is distraction (I used to kiss Connor's neck on that side,

while strectching it). We also used to do one where we laid him on

his side and then pull his legs up, letting the floor do the stretch

for us. There are also some good exercises to do using an exercise

ball if you check the files at:

torticolliskids/

Connor (PPO helmet grad 8/04, tort resolved, mild craniofacial microsomia)
