Guest guest
I cook brown rice separately and stir in at the end. I also freeze cooked brown rice so I have it in a pinch. I use my crock pot all the time but don't think I have seen a recipe where could can put uncooked brown rice in and get it to cook. Jx. Need cooking advice I am planning on making up a recipe from stuff I have in the house. A crock pot recipe. I am going to make a chicken and rice dish. I am using the long cooking type of brown rice and am wondering if I can cook the rice with the chicken and other ingredients in the crock pot...and if so, about how long would it take? (I am frequently lost without a recipe so this is a challenge for me). The concern I have is not over/under cooking the rice. Thank you !!!!!!! Peace, Jen N. Guest guest
Jen, Could you just cook the rice separately and add it at the end if you're worried? I would think the rice in the crockpot would end up mushy after all day cooking. But believe me, I'm not a good cook! I do love my crockpot, although I've never done rice in it. Hope it's turns out to be delicious. Good for you for meal planning ahead. I think that's part of my problem. Not planning turns into quick, easy, higher calorie meals. Good luck. Guest guest
I'm sure you probably already have gotten a reply. LOL, but being 100's of posts behind - Just incase... LOL. I would probably have everything else pretty well to the finished point, maybe about 10 or 15 mints till done then put it in. If your using the instant kind it's done very quickly. Just add it when all else is almost done and check it after about 20 mints for non-instant, and then every 5 or so mints there after. There have been times I made rice on the stove then added it if the dish I was making wasn't liquid enough. But when I do that I always add chicken bolion to the water or cook in in chicken stock instead of water. Ang > I am planning on making up a recipe from stuff I have in the house.
