Guest guest
My son jon(8 months on Fri. 10th) got his band a week ago this Monday. He seems to be adjusting to it very well, however, when I take it off to bathe him, I notice that the redness ( on the side of his face, nape of his neck and forehead) takes a little longer than time permitted to go away. Will they fix these pressure points on his 1st visit back on Monday? I tried putting a little cortaid on the spots, he is getting rashes. Any other suggestions? I am also tired of the stares! Some people have no tact! Thanks, jisup in LA

Guest guest
Hi Jisup, Any red mark that lasts more then an hour needs to be addressed. It means the band needs to be adjusted. If I were you I'd keep him out of his band until you see your orthotist. Keeping it on his head could lead to a skin breakdown. If that happens he could be out of his band for days. Let us know how your appointment goes on Monday. I can so relate to tactless people. The whole time my baby was banded I never got use to the stares and rude people. :-( -- In Plagiocephaly , " jisup0000 " <jisup0000@y...> wrote: > > My son jon(8 months on Fri. 10th) got his band a week ago this > Monday. Guest guest
Jisup, It is good that you are going in Monday, because it sounds like it's already time for and adjsutment. You must have caught a growth spurt right off. Be sure you let the cortaid absorb all the way before putting the band back on and also be sure to let the band dry the full hour before it goes back on, some babies are sensitive to the alcohol. I know it is always upsetting to think that people will be staring at your baby. For the most part my outings with my banded baby were positive. Most people smiled and commented on how cute he was in his band. We aslo had the fellow plagio parents run up and say " my child wore a band in 2004 " . I will not tell you that you will never run into people who will stare, make ignorant comments or ask ridiculous questions, but isn't that life anyway? I tried to use the time out to help educate others on the subject of plagiocephaly. You never know when you will save another baby from having to wear a band and how good would that feel? We took the " HERE HE IS " approach to going out. We bought him T-shirts from Precious Bambino's plagio shop online and the Cappskids website that had funny or educational plagio sayings on them. We decorated his bands and put his name on them so people would say " Hello Dominick " instead of just staring. He has been out of his band for several months and I still have people stop me and ask how he is doing, or run up and tell him how wonderful he looks. Guest guest
When I got people in the act of staring I looked them straight in the eyes and smiled. Most people find it too difficult to continue to be rude when someone is smiling at them. The really rude people would turn away. The other people felt more comfortable asking about the helmet since I was smiling at them. As for the bizarre questions, it is hard to blame people. After all, how much did any of us know about plagio before our children were diagnosed with it? (mom to Georgia, DDH/plagio, Starband grad 11/05) i need help~ My son jon(8 months on Fri. 10th) got his band a week ago this Monday.
