Hi !

I felt the same way you did right before my surgery - scared as heck. I

have a great family and a wonderful loving husband who couldn't care less

about how much I weigh and I was willing to risk it all for the sake of my

own vanity! What if it killed me?? Believe me, your reasons for worrying

sound reasonable to me!!

>But I am afraid that even after I

>lose my weight I will still be a social outcast. It's a no-win

>situation. When I found out that I could afford to get this surgery

>I thought I was looking at a whole new life. Maybe I was just

>wishing that would indeed happen to me. I have been in outcast my

>whole life because of my weight.

I'm sure you have heard this before, but losing weight really brings you

into focus. Suddenly people who have looked through you start to see you.

I have been feeling like I just became visible. My family is proud of me

and I feel great about myself. I really think that what happens is not so

much in other people but inside your own head. You won't worry nearly as

much about what other people think and that seems to make you more

attractive. You WILL lose weight. You WILL be energetic. You can even

find another spouse if you want to, but you may decide you like playing the

field better. :)

In the short term, you just have to get past the jitters. I wish you had

someone to go with too, but there will probably be several people in the

hotel who are there for the same reason (that's how I met Jo and !)

Dr. Rumbaut and his office staff are very supportive. I'd recommend

traveling light to make it easy on yourself. Also, ask for Maalox before

you think you need it <G>. Or, tuck some into your suitcase. The only

pain I felt the whole time was gas.

>I am sorry for such a downer of an e-

>mail but I am hoping that I am wrong and everything will work out

>right. I guess I just needed to get some of this out of me. I hope

>you do not mind me saying all this. Take care everybody.

I think you are definitely doing the right thing. It's never too early to

make necessary changes in your life. The good will become better, the bad

will be a lot more bearable and there will be all sorts of wonderful

surprises along the way! If I were you I'd thank my lucky stars I can

afford the surgery and be ready to never look back. The great days are

just ahead!

Keep that chin up!

Hi ,

I just got home late last night from Mexico. My banding date was May 7th or

should I say my new birthday? I don't know if I can be of any help or support to

you or anyone else but I would be happy to answer any questions you might have

about Dr. R or the surgery. My 2 cents is you are doing the right thing. Good

luck and feel free to e-mail me if you would like. fehlen1@...

Doing the right thing?

Hello fellow banisters,

Only 2 and 1/2 weeks before my surgery date. You would

think that the closer the day comes to my surgery the more excited I

would be. But instead of being excited I keep on wondering if this

will actually do anything for my life. I know that I will lose by

weight eventually, however I guess I expect or at least hope it will

change by personal life as well.

Never went on a date in high

school. Never even knew what a woman was until I paid for one just

to find out what it was like to be with one even if it was only

for an hour. That was when I was over 20 years old. At least a

knew how to spend my tax return money each year. :-) I got married

when I was 28 years old to another person who was as desperate for

companionship as I was. Needless to say after 13 years of marriage

we finally realized we were married for the wrong reasons and got a

divorce. I have been alone now for over four years and I am hoping

that this operation will change my life so I can have a chance at

having a decent and rewarding relationship with a nice woman. Maybe

even having a family yet. So is my doing this operation for the

right reasons? Or am I just being selfish by thinking this might

change my life for the better by being thinner and hoping that some

woman out there might find me attractive and interesting enough to

get-together and start a new life. Or am I just living in a dream

state and not reality? Sometimes I wish when I would go to bed I

would not even wake up. Then I know I would not have to worry about

the future. Luckily each day I'm able to read everybody's e-mail on

what a difference this operation has made on their lives. This is

the only thing that is keeping up my spirits. At least the majority

of you already have somebody here to help you through this

procedure. I will be going to Mexico by myself because I do not

have any close friends here were I live at. As far as family, well

they have their own problems. I am sorry for such a downer of an e-

mail but I am hoping that I am wrong and everything will work out

right. I guess I just needed to get some of this out of me. I hope

you do not mind me saying all this. Take care everybody.

Since I have such a big hiney right now I will deftly try to go for the gusto.

After it shrinks I'm not so sure. :-)

Take care

Hi Stacey,

I'm really behind on posts. I just wanted to know how you made out

today? Did you get in for an adjustment?

Thanks, . I haven't been on much because we have one cranky

baby here. We got it adjusted and we aren't even seeing pink spots

now, so I am glad we left it off for one night. It also gave us a

chance to catch up on some sleep because our son is not sleeping

very well yet in his band. He is normally an excellent sleeper so

it is breaking my heart that he is miserable right now. I just keep

hoping he will adjust and this will be over soon.

Any tips on making them more comfortable at night?

Stacey,

I'm sorry he's not sleeping better yet. :-( Have you tried dressing

him in lighter pjs? Is he teething?

He hasn't been hot at all or sweaty. We give him tylenol, because

what can it hurt and it seems like they are always could be

teething. I am pretty sure it is the band though. He is very

brachy and I think used to having that nice flat spot. I think he

hasn't found a way to get comfortable quite yet. Wearing the helmet

kind of tips his chin forward when we lay him on his back. (that's

normal, right?) I figure he is either going to find a comfort zone

or learn how to roll over. Either one would be good.

Hi Stacey,

I didn't know he was brachy. You're probably right, he needs time to

find his comfort zone. Hopefully that'll be soon. Keep us posted.
