Eileen,

Just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the group.

I am sure you will find this group a tremendous form of support, and

encouragement. I know that it all seems so overwhelming right now, but

eventually, months from now, it will " settle down " a little, as you will

learn more and more every single day, even just by reading the other posts

from different people.

The neat thing is that we are all at different stages of diagnosis,

treatment, and so forth. Please ask questions, and let us know what's going

on.

Welcome to the group, where you finally found people who understand what

you're going through.

Bad enough to be diagnosed with thyroid cancer, what bad timing to have it

happen while you're new at your job! Hopefully you're new boss(es) will

be supportive, but we definitely will be :-)

Where do you live? It's very likely that there are other list members

nearby, maybe even a local support group.

You may have already heard the line that makes us all cringe, the one about

having The Good Cancer, " the one I'd choose if I had to have cancer " .

They're stupid remarks, but well intended. What they mean to say is that

most thyroid cancer is highly treatable, and most of us will die of

something else.

I will post separately an updated index to listserv archives; reading the

letters may help you prepare for your upcoming surgery.

In the meantime, ask all the questions you can think of, and we'll be here

to answer.

Dear Eileen,

I think I have been on this list about a month. I am

also 24 years old, and I just started working full

time this summer. I had a total thyroidectomy two

weeks ago (see my sig file). Please feel free to

e-mail me privately with any questions or concerns you

may have. I would love to help you get through this.

And know there are people out there who understand how

you feel right now, I'm one of them!

take care,

Sofía
