Hi Jamila,

First off...TAKE A DEEEP BREATH AND QUIETLY RELAX FOR A MOMENT!!!

What did your doctor do?

What tests did he run?

Did he run these tests during your last pregnancies to see if the

numbers were similar?

By the Bye... Congratulations of your baby, as well as on the other

three...It always amazes me how mothers juggle all these living

beings in one house hole!!!!

Did he start you on any medication?

Did he give you a diagnosis?

Did he give you a referal to a specialist in Endoc...(sp?) who also

specialises in the pregnancy enduced Hypothryoidism?

If he didn't to any of the questions I'd be getting that appointment

made with the Endo, at least with an Endo, hopefully you live near

enough to where you can get to see an Endo who also Specializes in

pregnancy treatment.

As to the rumors that you heard...don't jump to

conclusions...remember...these are only two studies...not hundreds

to back each other up!!! IMHO

Now, get to that Endocranologist(sp) and see what she/he says!!!!

Because of this issue I have made an appointment w/ an OB. I dont usually deal w/ OB's as I am a homebirther and use a midwife.

That's so great -- I think home birth is absolutely

wonderful (when it is feasible). I beleive the birth

process is very important ... one's beginnings, one's

entrance into this world is significant!

Is the doc giving you replacement hormone?

During pregnancy if the mom is hypo the baby's thyroid will be supplying hormone for the mom too. The more hormone the baby must supply to the mom the more likely they baby will not have a healthy thyroid gland... If the baby can't produce enough hormone for both of you... you will miscarry.

It would be my advice to get that doc moving on getting your hormone levels up.. that's gonna be tricky. A T4 only med, like Synthroid and it's clones, won't be working fast enough to be of much help. You're going to need a combo med, like Armour or one of it's clones and possible add additional T3 to that to get your active hormone levels up.

This is still gonna be tricky.. you can't increase to quickly it can be hazardous to you.... but waiting is going to be causing more difficulties for your baby.

Have they determined why you are hypo? Have they given you a diagnosis? Have they tested your antibody levels?

I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroitis. I am taking synthroid 175 mcgs, but before this last test I was taking 100 mcgs. My antibodies were 22, my free T4 was 0.81. The highest my TSH has ever been that I can remember is 17, and I wasnt pregnant at that time. Throughout my last two pregnancies my TSH got to 8 during my first trimester, and then stayed under 3 during the rest because of synthyroid. My doctor doesnt want to use anything else other than sythroid, and I dont have any experience w/ anything else and dont want to experiment w/ anything while pregnant. I dont know why I am hypothyroid, nobody has said why. Any ideas????

Thanks again,

Jamila__________________________________________________

Thanks! :-) My first baby was born via c-section, so I just decided not to put myself or my children in harms way again and now I just stay at home. :-P

No I just mean I am impressed if you have given birth without meds. Hope I didn't scare you. I don't think that this affects the birth in any way, but it'd be a good thing to talk to your OB about.

It's the Hashi's antibodies attacking the thyroid and killing it that is making you hypo... low thyroid.

Hashi's is an auto immune disease. What that means is that your body, for whatever the reason is producing antibodies that think your thyroid is an invader, like a disease or germ. Those antibodies are working on killing your thyroid gland... as time passes, more and more of the gland will die and you will need total replacement hormone..

Even at 3.0 your TSH is too high.... but it's not the TSH that tells the tale, you need to know what your Free T4 and Free T3 levels are to know if the hormone that you have is sufficient for you to be healthy. Right now your body is using hormone that your baby is making.

I know some of the things that we are talking about may not make sense to you yet... some may be review... but just in case, we have a web page set up that runs through the hormones, tests and available medications so that the emails you read make more sense...

Jamila
