Re: average braces duration before the surgery?

Hey V........... same thing happened to me, my ortho said the braces

would be on for about a year to a year and a half pre-op and about 6-

8 months post-op. Here I am now, 3 years (minus 2 months) in braces

and having my surgery on Wednesday. I don't think my ortho put my

splint on soon enough, b/c I had to wear it for at least 5 months.

I kept bugging him asking when I would have the procedure, but he

said that it just takes time for everything to be in place - you

can't rush the movement of teeth.

Hope everything goes well for you!

Sorry, but I don't think averages apply here. It depends on how your

teeth move, and how much they need to move. Estimates give hope, but

they are not always accurate.

that said, my guy was on the money. He said 18-20 months. As it

turned out, I had surgery at month 16, got our of the braces at month

20, although I'd delayed things by a month by getting the shingles on

my face.

Don't count on estimates. Try to relax, and let it happen as it goes.

Best wishes,

Cammie

Hi,

i will have had my braces exactly 3 months to the day on the day on

my surgery (20th JUne)- obviously there wasnt much wrong with my

teeth- just a couple of gaps. And i am having them off 3 months after

surgery.

I had an exact schedule i had to stick to, because im final year

university, and it had to be done the first week of my mid-year

holidays so i had enough recovery time before next semester- so there

was no way the ortho could say, lets wait 2 weeks or a month- or even

a day!

I think if there is a deadline the ortho will make it!

good luck

Ohhh, honey. That kind of ortho and surgeon, I wouldn't want. I

wanted them to take as much time as they needed, to get everything

exactly right!!

Believe me, no pressure from me about time. But then I'm older, and

maybe not wiser.
