Guest guest
Penny, I have been informed by my hepatologist and my endoscopist that the horrible nausea (which has increased tremendously this past year) is from the PSC. I never thought to ask them why. I asked my endo if he thought it was worth doing an EDG to make sure there isn't something wrong with my stomach, and he said he'd really rather not as he truly believes, like my hep, that it's the progression of the PSC. I'll see if I can get more specifics at my next appt. Guest guest
Penny, I will discuss this with my docs but since I'm so new to all this, I thought perhaps it was common. I'm still trying to figure out what my PSC body can and cannot do. The fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea have me pretty much on the ropes right now but I still teach. Got to stay positive, keep my sense of humor, things will get better and it's great to see how every supports each other on this webcite. I have nausea on an almost constant basis, changing only the intensity from time to time. My GI says it is definitely due to the PSC. When this first became so constant, we asked him about it and I told him I really didn't want to take another pill. He said that was just as well, since I'll need it far more later on than now. (That was about 2 years ago.) My nausea gets worse on exertion. If I do much of anything at all I get very, very nauseous and break out in a sweat (though that last part might be hot flashes! LOL!). Guest guest
i, too have felt nausea since i have had psc. it gets worse and better, but when it is really bad i have a prescription for reglan. it works really quickly and it's nice that i only use it when i need it. i don't think all of these people with psc should go around every day feeling nauseated because they don't want to take a pill. if you feel sick to your stomach you won't eat, which makes you weak, which is not good for you either. i am afraid to throw up since discovering that i have varices. i always think i will start bleeding again. Guest guest
I have been reading these posts on nausea and wanted to ask, for all who get nausea, whether you do throw up from it or you just get the nausea? I am asking because about four years before my son was diagnosed with both PSC and UC, he started getting nausea but this happened only when he ate chicken. We all didn't take that serious. We had just moved here from kenya and felt that perhaps all the hormones and " junk " injected into birds to let them mature early somehow did not agree with him since he tends to be sensitive to some things (eg insect bites). So the remedy was that very often, he didn't take chicken. Alright if the chicken was in soup but when fried or grilled, then sometimes was a problem. Now I am wondering and hoping that it wasn't a sign of the PSC because that means he's had it that long (only diagnosed a year ago because of tests done due to frequent diarrhea and a diagnosis of UC) and I still keep on hoping that one of these days we would be told that the PSC diagnosis was wrong (although he has beading of bile ducts).
