Guest guest Posted February 5, 2000 Report Share Posted February 5, 2000 , if you are using fresh goats milk it needs to be pasteurized first by heating slowly to 155 degrees. Keep the milk at that temperature for one minute then cover and let cool. Once cool, you need to freeze it, thaw it and then mix it with your lye. I use Milk-Based Soaps by Casey Makela. If your goats milk came from the store, it is already pasteurized but you still need to freeze it first. Freezing it increases it's stability and helps it act " nicer " when mixed with the lye. BTW I'm new to the list. I've been soaping for a while now and really love it. I am owner of another soaping site that is more for co-ops. I don't know if I'm suppose to name the site so I won't. I have a recipe but it seems to me I read somewhere there is some special things you have to do with it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm open to any suggestions and recipes. The recipe I have is from " The handmade Soap Book " . I live in WI, and this weathe ris taking a toll on my skin.
