Dave, My husband had his annual ERCP Wednesday night and the only symptom he had was some pain and discomfort in the right side (liver). His GI told him that he would feel some discomfort but if there was any other symptoms like fever, chills, etc. he was to contact his office immediately. Please don't wait, go to the ER and have yourself checked out. My husband was told the doctor estimates him to be about a year and a half away from needing a transplant, even though he has very little symptoms other than fatigue and some depression. Take care of yourself and I will keep you in my prayers. Janice Dave Caito

Hi Dave,

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. To answer your questions, my husband, , just turned 50 and is being treated at HUP in Philadelphia. His GI is local, here in the Poconos. He has an excellent team of doctors who we are very comfortable with.

To explain your MELD score number, I am including the calculator as below. You sound like you are in the beginning stages of the diagnosis and your doctor may not feel it is warranted at this time. Your MELD score helps determine when and if you are to be placed on the transplant list. However, this is not the only deciding factor. Your doctors have a lot to do with the decision, too.

************************************************************

Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) Score Calculator

Please note that this calculator is applicable only to persons awaiting liver transplantation who are over the age of 12 years! The MELD score = 10 * [(0.957 * LN(SCR in mg/dL)) + (0.378 * LN(total bilirubin in mg/dL)) + (1.12 * LN(INR)) + 0.643)] where:

LN indicates the natural logarithm. SCR = serum creatinine (mg/dL). INR = international normalized ratio. After entering your serum creatinine, total bilirubin, and INR, click the Calculate button. Your MELD Score will then be computed and displayed in the "Computed MELD Score =" text box.

Enter your Serum Creatinine (SCR) (mg/dL): (minimum value = 1; maximum value = 4) (For patients who have had dialysis twice within the last week, the creatinine value should be set to 4) Enter your Total Bilirubin (mg/dL): (minimum value = 1) Enter your INR: (minimum value = 1)

Computed MELD Score = (minimum value = 6; maximum value = 40)

***********************************************************

This is all very confusing, but you should speak to your doctor about all of this and keep coming to this site. The members here are fabulous with an overwhelming amount of information and, most importantly, support. If I can help in any way, please feel free to write to me. You are welcome to send me emails to my private email address should you have anything you would like to discuss without many responses.

Best of health to you.

This is

all very confusing, but you should speak to your doctor about all of this and

keep coming to this site. The members here are fabulous with an

overwhelming amount of information and, most importantly, support. If I

can help in any way, please feel free to write to me. You are welcome to

send me emails to my private email address should you have anything you would

like to discuss without many responses.

Best of

health to you.

Janice
