Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is Kathy and my son Austin who will be 9 in September has untreated plagio. We first noticed his headshape when he was a few weeks old. Like many of you were told, our pediatrician kept telling us it would round out on its own. We brought the subject up to him at each checkup. When he was 9 months we went to Baltimore to see Dr. Ben Carson to get his opinion. He told us there was no need to worry and they did a Cscan to be sure everything was developing fine and it was. We were not told anything about a helmet. It wasnt until He was five that I even heard the word " plagiocephaly " . Through all of this though our major concern was developmental not really cosmetic. For all of you that may have concerns on development or any problems I hope I can comfort you by letting you know that he hasn't had ANY problmes whatsoever. He is extremely bright and is in the Magnet program (accelerated classes) at his school. The only thing really is getting bike or batting helmets to fit properly, just got to get a little creative. Also, I try to leave his hair a little longer in the crown to make it less noticeable. He told me he has had a few children mention something about his head. I point out that people have different head shapes regardless of plagio. I am a hairstylist and see all kinds. If we could go back and were informed, yes, we would have used the helmet. But Ive got to say that I am fortunate to have a wonderful, HEALTHY child even if he doesnt have a ROUND head. I will be glad to answer any questions if I can. I will be posting pics also. I have posted pics on the older plagio groups site if you'd like to view them there until I get them uploaded on this groups site. Ill get some current pics of the back, top and side views as soon as possbile. They will be under the folder " Austin " . Thanks and I look forward to chatting with ya. ~Kathy land

Guest Jenny
Hello Kathy, It has been 13 years since your post, how is your son's head as an adult? Has his head become more rounded with growth? It would be great if you would let us know as we never hear from adults with head shape issues. Thank you!
