KNIVES!

I walked into Sophie's bedroom and did a double take. Was that a KNIFE on her

bookcase?

It was. It was the knife I use for slicing Putter and Robbie's apples.

Upon closer examination, it proved to be part of a strange Putter Display. I

knew this because the next object was my mixer, the one Putter considers to be

an iron.

First the knife. Then the mixer/iron. Then a screw taken from my tool box this

morning. Next was a wrench, followed by a nut (as in nut and bolt, not as in

what squirrels eat). And then a large red fire engine, followed by an apple, a

potato and an onion.

Huh? Is there some connection here that I am missing?

I removed the knife. I had to go though; I ran out to do a quick errand at the

store (got myself a bar of chocolate with pistachio nuts, but don't tell as I do

not plan to share). I return home and Putter is crying. is sitting

with him and looking extremely irritated. " Putter wants a knife, " he told me.

Putter, using a clever subterfuge, got to peel and slice an apple for

him and then Putter quickly took the knife. But took the knife from

Putter and he hid it.

When I arrived, Putter was crying, " Knife, knife. " I went to the silver ware

drawer and took out some nice safe blunt butter knives. " No, " shouted Putter,

" Rectangle! "

Haven't a clue what he means by that. But, " Big! " says Putter and so I get a

nice safe sterling silver cake server. " No! " says indignant Putter, " Little! "

I put all the safe blunt knives on the kitchen table and sneak out of the

kitchen while Putter is thoughtfully examining a wooden handled cheese spreader.

I hide all the knives in the top drawer of my chest of drawers. A little

inconvenient for cooking perhaps, especially since my bedroom is the furthest

possible room from the kitchen, but that is the kind of life we lead.

Putter is now playing his skeleton game on the computer, but the knives will

stay hidden.

Still don't get the Putter Display.
