Hi , I have been unable to read for a few days but now I am

back and wanted to comment on Shingles.

About 5 years ago, my then 5 year old son was vaccinated for chicken

pox. 3 days later I broke out in shinges and one week later he got

a very mild (less than 10 blisters) case of chicken pox. My

shingles started on my back and went around to my front...they only

affect one half of your body...from mid point in the front to mid

point (spine) in the back. It has something to do with how our

nerves run in our body.

When mine started, I did some quick research, realized what it

probably was and I called my dermitologist. They said they didnt'

have an appt for a few weeks until I told them I thought I had

shinges. They had an immediate appt available.

Anyway, the doc gave me antiviral meds (I think it was the same kind

they give for herpes???) some pain meds and she injected several of

the blisters with cortisone. I went back two days later and she

injected more blisters, two days later I went back to get more

injections and took my son with me....she injected the rest of the

blisters...took pics of my shingles and my sons chicken pox together

for teaching purposes. (SHE was so excited!! yikes!)

For the first couple of days the pain was unbearable. After she

started injecting with cortisone, the pain became less and less each

time. I had read taht there could be residual pain for weeks,

sometimes months...but I had none after about a week.

Sometimes I do think that specialists can do a little more for us

than regular MD's.

Interesting tho....two months later I was diagnosed with Hypo. I

have heard of my cases of elderly people having shingles on one ear

or one one side of the head. OUCH!

I hope you are shingle free soon!!!!

Kat
