Guest guest
I'm posing this dilemma to my two favorite lists ... I could use some advice. As many of you know, I'm quitting my day job on Friday to do this soap biz full time. (YIPPEEEE) In the meantime, there is a gal that I'm in contact with (from the day job) who wants to sell my soaps. Apparently she has quite a few contacts and wants to " help " . She would like some sort of " kick back " for selling - she wants me to ship direct and, more than likely, bill direct to the customer. In other words, it sounds like she wants to be a representative. Now, as the day job is working for reps, I understand the process, etc. The day job gets commission on direct sales from vendors to the customers. They average about 15%. If I use something similar to that, this would give that gal 15% of the sales that she makes. However, my day job sells spendy items. Soaps are not spendy items! Especially if she sells to wholesale accounts! I traditionally sell to wholesale at $2.40/bar and $2.70/bar. How do I offer 15% of that to her? Or, is that acceptable? I won't hire her because I don't want to mess with all the hassles of hiring people. That leaves having her rep for me. Right? And, she is really pushing me to do something because she has people after her to purchase my soap. This could be a good thing because she's on one part of the Cities (St. /Minneapolis) and in the other so I don't know spit about her area. It would give me good exposure. Or is this a PITA (pain in the *ss) and I should just say thanks but no thanks? If you do intend to hire her... tack on her 15% to your wholesale price... that's what I would do. Your allready selling it cheap enough as it is.
