hi everyone,

i am scheduled to have my surgery on my upper and lower

jaws july 14th. Lately i've been a little worried because the only

time i met with the surgeon was when he examined my jaw and decided

i needed surgery, then a year later after the insurance company

finally agreed to cover me, i met with him again so he could see how

my jaw was doing. That was in January. Since then i have been going

to my orthodontist every 3 weeks to have my braces altered. The

surgeon's secretary scheduled my surgery and also a pre-op

appointment to give me a physical and make sure i'm healthy enough

to have the surgery. I just thought this was kind of wierd that i am

not going to see the surgeon until just before the surgery so i

decided to schedule another appointment with him before the

physical. I am really curious if everyone else here hardly saw their

surgeon. I feel like i just haven't been given all the details about

my surgery and what exactly is going to happen. I mean, they've told

me " we're going to shorten your upper jaw, pull it forward, pull

your bottom jaw forward and maybe alter your chin so it fits your

face better " but they haven't given me exact details about what to

expect.

My mom was a little concerned about that too, we feel like

i've just been lost in the shuffle of all the other patients and

they're treating me more like an item on an assembly line than an

actual individual person. I'm really worried about how different i'm

going to look after the surgery and it seems like it's going to be

pretty emotionally stressful, so it seems like they'd have a

counselor to talk to or someone to make me feel a little more

confident about what's going to happen. So basically, I am just

curious about what it was like for other people, before the

surgery...how much you saw your actual surgeon, how the doctors

prepared you, how many details they gave you about what was going to

happen, etc...

(sorry for such a long post! I'm just getting kind of nervous as the

surgery gets closer...!)
