beth,

Both my kids only had one band. It depends on the type of band, the

severity and the age of the child.

DS was severe. If we had delayed his treatment until he was older

he most likely would have required two bands. He was banded from 5-

8 months of age.

Hey, did they rescan Aidan's head? Doesn't sound like you're

worried about it looking worse. Good to hear!

had to wear 2 DOC bands. He was in the moderate to severe

range for his Plagio. The first he exhausted in 8 weeks (wore it

from 8/8/05-10/3/05). He got his second band on 10/24/05 and he's

pretty much done, it doesn't sit right on his head anymore (I took

it off of him a couple of days ago as it just got too tight). We go

for his exit cast on 2/6/06.

Hi beth,

Like said, it depends on a few things. How is Aidan's band

fitting now? Keep us posted.

My little man is on his second DOC Band. He was in his first for 9

weeks, and he'll be in his second for 12 weeks. His initial numbers

were:

Cranial Vault Assymetry: 14mm

Skull Base Assymetry: 6mm

Facial Assymetry: 5mm

Cranial Index: 91%

When we realized that he'd need a second band we were really

disappointed, but the decision was easy. We had already come a long

way, so why stop then. He has had amazing correction with the second

band, and I couldn't be happier that we chose to do it.

Good luck!

beth,

My oldest daughter wore two DOC bands. She was 11 mm CVA and 9 mm

ears and 4 1/2 months old at start of first band. She out grew it in

27 days - she was growing like a weed. She went into band #2 at 6

months, 7 mm cva and 7 mm ears. She outgrew it and graduated at 8

1/2 months, 3 mm CVA and 4 mm ears. She has since seem a tiny bit

more improvement, 2 1/2 yrs, 2 mm CVA, 3 mm ears.

She was a unique case. She had some odd assymmetries and was a very

fast grower.

It's uncommon for a child to need multiple bands. I only know DOC

band stats. Off the top of my head ~14% wear a 2nd band and maybe 2-

3% wear a 3rd. Of course this is not broken down by age or

severity. A very young, fast growing child like my na might

need 2 even with moderate severity. A child with severe asymmetry

might need 2-3 (Hannah or Dominick). An older child who is slow

growing might need 2. However, the majority will just wear 1.

FYI Some providers do not believe in offering more than 1 band.
