Guest guest
Heidi, At your son's age the only logical way to go would be with an active band. The DOCband, STARband and the Hanger band are all active bands. They redirect the growth of the head through gentle pressure not felt by the baby. They're used on very young infants up until toddler age. Cranial Tech, they make the DOCband are the leaders when it comes to treating plaigo babies. It's all they do and are specially trained to do so. If you're going to use the STARband or the Hanger band you're going to have to do your homework. You're going to have to throughly interview any potential orthos. Ask how many babies they've treated successfully. Do they have before and after pictures they can show you? And do you they have any references. A passive helmet would give your baby little correction as they rely totally on growth. The helmet sits on the baby's head and eventually the baby's head grows into the shape of the helmet, round. Once a baby hits 6 months old head growth slows down considerably. Guest guest
Hello Heidi, This is the biggest decision you'll have to make in the process. I have a 7 1/2 month old who has been banded since 1/4/06. We went with the DOC Band for a couple of reasons...I met with orthotists from a helmet place and Cranial Tech and felt that Cranial tech would be a better fit because they really are trained specifically for doing the bands, the other place did prostetic limbs and only did the helmets as requested. Also, the helmet place seemed more focused on the payment (all up front) whereas Cranial tech sent the request through the insurance first so that the baby could get treated sooner. The end result may be similar - but I've read a lot of responses to questions like yours and people that are more knowledgable than me tend to say that the band is more active than the helmet. It has a lot to do with the orthotist you will be working with too. Good luck in making your decision - and congratulations on your successful adoption! Sincerely, April mom to Isabella, 7 1/2 months old, DOC Band 1/4/06, polis, MD -- In Plagiocephaly , " galations36 " <galations36@...> wrote: > > Did any of you switch from the Helmet to the Band? Guest guest
I called today to move forward with cranial technologies in Fairfax, Virginia. At first, I thought what a hike. But now that I've done some research, I feel very fortunate they are so close. Do you live in the DC area? h Re: Helmet vs BandHi Heidi,Where will you be going for treatment?> > >> > > Did any of you switch from the Helmet to the Band?
