Guest guest
Hello , I too have had skin irritation since my initial RAI. I have folliculitis which causes cysts, blocked hair follicles, and blisters to form especially around places that are prone to shaving. I was put on Erythromycin which did help with the massive flares. Time really seems to be the only thing that heals. Now that it is starting to get cold (at least in Connecticut) my skin is getting dry, and it is flaring again. Areas that rub or are irritated from shaving (armpits, etc.) tend to really flair. It can be quite uncomfortable and nasty to look at. Once again, docs say there is no known link b/w RAI and folliculitis. I beg to differ. I would recommend keeping the area clean, try not to shave as frequently or overly irritate the skin with harsh soaps or creams. Don't shave your body quite yet!! Ha Ha. By the way , I loved your shaved head response. You are a clown. Good luck. from CT

Guest guest
I have a question, I had a 30 mCi dose of Radioiodine on Friday. Yesterday I shaved for the first time, and discovered that my clean shaven face felt bumpy all over. Closer examination showed a little bump every where a hair was. Prior to RAI it was smooth. Is this normal? Will it go back to being smooth? Does this mean the radioiodine is in my hair, and I'll need to shave all the hair off my entire body so that I don't contaminate anyone? I had gauze and tape over an area by my underarm a week ago and I still have a rash from the tape. I have no solutions for you but possibly some reassurance as mine has coincided with being slightly hypo and not directly from RAI as mine was a year ago. I would thus say it's possibly a long-term side effect from RAI but because of the length of time since my RAI it is clearly not from radioactivity. All to say I don't think contamination is a worry. Just lots of irritation!! Like thyca isn't enough! :>) Hope you feel relief soon! Sue from CT
