Guest guest
Em, I have taken Benadryl off and on to help me sleep (I usually forget, if I am not reminded!). I can't say I have noticed the muscle pain...I will pay attention the next time. You may just be sensitive in a way that hasn't been documented before...I had an experience like that with Loritab. If I take one, I am fine (although I am still in pain), but if I take two I itch like the dickens (and no pain!). The pharmacist and my doctor said there is no documented side effect of itching without a rash and that I must just be sensitive, not allergic. I still take two, with two benadryl!! I take Benedryl and have never noticed an increase in muscle pain, guess I'll have to pay more attention next time. Of course, it also doesn't make me sleepy, unless, I'm already sleepy and laying down. It's interesting that you doctor and pharmacist say you have to have a rash with an itch to be " allergic " . I've been declared " allergic " to several drugs on the basis of itching alone by my doctors. The one drug that gave me just a rash, no itching, was originally declared " allergic " by a doctor, but my doctor said, although she will respect that, she also considers it a possibility to use if she absolutely has to. I know someone who died from an allergic reaction of just itching. Ok, so the itching wasn't what killed him, but you know what I mean. He had no kind of rash, just itching, and didn't know that was a sign of an allergic reaction and continued to take the medicine. He took a bath to try to relieve the itching and went to bed to die in his sleep. My father also almost died as a reaction to a medicine which caused severe itching, no rash, but fortunately, he was in the hospital at the time and the doctor caught it. Anyway, I guess I'm always a bit paranoid because of these incidents, that someone won't realize that just itching *is* a serious sign to stop your medicine.
