Guest guest
So glad to hear you are o.k. now. I was wondering, though, does bleeding occur more often in people having upper and lower done, and not so often in " just lower " ? Sorry to ask, just getting nervous, it's becoming more real as the days are passing. MADE IT TO THE OTHER SIDE!! 5 DAYS POST-OP Hi everyone!! It's here. Well I am 5 days post-op and I am glad it's over. Had upper and lower surgery done on May 20th at 10:30am. Surgery took 4 and half hours and everything went well until recovery. I ended up being in recovery for 4 hours as I was bleeding more after the surgery than during and my blood pressure went way up. I had an extremely bad reaction to either the drugs or being put under as I threw up for about18 hours. They would not give me anything to drink and my mouth was so dry. It was absolutely horrible!! Congestion was bad as I had a breathing tube in one nasal passage, and another going into my stomach to pump out blood. I did not think that I was going to make it through it and my family was very worried. They had banded me during surgery but ended up cutting the bands because of my vomiting. Let's just say it was not a pretty site. Today is Sunday and they let me come home on Thursday. They put the bands back on real tight before I left and now I can't talk at all. I feel weak and I am finding it very hard to eat. I have already dropped 8lbs which seems crazy to me. I am very swollen and bruised and just want some of the swelling to reside. I have been using ice packs. Did anyone use heating pads for swelling or is that a good idea? Well, I'll tell you something. I thought that I needed you guys before, well now I really need you all. I am basically just feeling very sorry for myself!!! On Wednesday I go and see the surgeon for my first check-up and supposely they will loosen the bands then. Does that make a big difference? Can you at least talk? It's awful when the phone rings because you can't even pick it up. I already hate ensure, boost anything like it and now I am getting tired of purreed soup. You tend to forget a lot of what you read on this site after the surgery actually takes place. Things seem so surreal! I sure don't feel very attractive. My mouth is somewhat crooked along with my nose. Was afraid at first that they might have broken my nose but I am sure it's just the swelling. It is the cartliage inside the nose that is kind of pushed to one side, probably from the tube I suspect. Well guys, I will sign off for now as I tire easily. I hope that everyone that has had surgery since is doing well. We will all be recovery together! Any advice or pep talk you can give me is much appreciated. Thanks

Guest guest
Hi , Just sit back and relax, and don't worry about how things look right now. Your main focus should be resting and taking in as many fluids as possible. Congratulations on your transition over to the other side! Different surgeons have different ideas on this - the resident at the hospital said that ice was not useful after the initial trauma (but it did feel good on my face, so I used it anyway) - they did not recommend heat as it tends to draw fluids to the site (and that can cause swelling). I'd ask your surgeon what he/she thinks about that. Trying to do too much talking or other activity will also cause swelling, trust me. If you have deep pockets, MLD therapy helped reduce what swelling I had. Hang in there, you won't be on pureed foods for too long.

Guest guest
Hi , Just for the record, I had minimal bleeding (upper/lower/genio - 3.5 hour surgery, lost only about 300 ml of blood). My husband was put in charge of the suction machine post-op, and hardly had to use it at all. Keep yourself focused on the distant other side - why you are doing this - and you'll do just fine! (and yes, I know that's very difficult).

Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome to the Other Side! This first week can be brutal! Hang in there as you will feel better next week. I am so sorry to read about all the immediate postop problems you had. That must have been terrifying. I remember how scared my family was for me and I didn't even come close to what you experienced. In an effort to cheer you up, I have to tell you ... you should have seen the train wreck that my nostrils were after surgery!! They were pulled and tugged into all sorts of directions. I didn't think anything would straighten out! There were uneven and one was bigger than the other. I don't remember it then, but I look back at pix and it's freaky! Things will straighten up on you. The liquid diet is tough. You have to do it. And do a lot of it. Folks who haven't gone through this do not understand that it takes all your efforts just to eat and clean for those first couple weeks. It is tiring but you have to keep it up for strength and healing. Good luck and continued good healing! Things will look up soon. Irish! > > Hi everyone!! It's here.
