- question about being wired closed

My surgeon is proposing to insert titanium plates to secure both my

upper and lower jaws after the surgery. So I wont be wired closed

like anybody i've read about so far. I would like to know the pros

and cons of not being wired shut versus being wired shut in terms of

the healing process and the chance of relapse. Does being wired

allow for a stronger bone healing than just using the plates?

And also, do you know how many people actually have the plates

instead of the wiring shut?

Thanks,

Murat
