Guest guest
Dave, Your fevers and chills are likely to be bacterial cholangitis - infections of the bile ducts that can become life threatening. You should go to a doctor or ER to treat the infections, not wait until October. See the section on cholangitis in the FAQ - http://www.psc-literature.org/FAQ.htm I have to admit that when I first had cholangitis attacks 16 years ago I did not immediately seek treatment. I went through several cycles of attacks (several months) before seeking treatment. Antibiotics quickly resolved the fevers but ongoing treatment could have been either continuous antibiotics or a rapid response to the first signs of an attack. I went with option 2 as the better course for me. Others here go the continuous antibiotic treatment route. Guest guest
Hi Dave, My husband was diagnosed with PSC six years ago. Like you, he takes URSO (250mg - 8 tabs a day) and it seems to be helping him to a point. The fevers and chills you are referring to sounds like you are having cholangitis attacks. When this happens to my husband, they give him Cipro for a week and monitor his blood. In most cases, cholangitis requires a hospital stay whereas you are administered antibiotics intravenously. You really need to discuss this with your doctor. My husband also goes for an ERCP once a year for the brushings and has bloodwork every 4 to 6 months. I think it is a good idea that you are going to the Mayo Clinic. I heard they are very thorough. My husband goes to a local gastro physician and also to the HUP in Philadelphia where he is seen annually by the transplant team. I wish you the best of health and welcome to the support group!
