Jen,

Depending on how much time you have to wean determines how you do it.

Begin with not offering to nurse, only do it when requested. This is a

change and will enable you to determine if your child has a set pattern for

bfing meals.

Then (if possible) cut out one session per week. Replace each nursing

session with cuddling, book reading, something else enjoyable.

If your child wants to nurse anytime you sit down, you will need to be on

your feet instead.

The book " Nursing Mother's Guide to Weaning, " Kathleen Huggins, is good.

LLL has some other books in their approved list/library as well.

I simply hope that your nursling is content and healthy now, because weaning

a child who doesn't feel well is a bigger chore in that the child would want

to nurse more for comfort than his/her usual.

Best of luck,

Amy Lynn M.

Jen,

Can I ask what type of meds you need to take? Are there no alternatives?

If you don't want to share I understand. Weaning with love is what you

want. Distraction and replacing less important feeds with other things such

as a cup or fun activity. Lots of activities to keep baby interested in

something else. Lots of patience and hugs. Let me know if I can help you

in anyway, I know this must not be easy for you.

My heart is breaking ...

I know I just returned this group but ...

I have to start taking some meds that are not approved for breastfeeding and

tonight I finally came to the realization that it's been a year and my

health

has to start taking some priority. I've put them off for a while but time

is

running out.

I cannot describe how much this hurts, this is my last baby and nursing is

such a comfort for both of us (even with the wiggles and twiddles). It just

breaks my heart to know I will never hold a baby in my arms to nurse again.

Anyway, I have never weaned before, only done child-led weaning. Anybody

have any suggestions on how to start?

a very sad jen
