Whenever my little ones had a stomach virus with vomiting I would nurse

them whenever they wanted, even if they threw it up. Does he have a

fever too? Or diarreah? Joan

The best thing for your sick baby right now is mommy milk! It will keep him

form getting dehydrated better than anything else. Plus being close to you

is going to make him feel better too. Breastmilk is 80% water and there is

know way it will do any harm to him. He needs those antibodies to fight off

what ever he has!

I would keep nursing him it will give him the antibodies that he needs to

fight off this (sounds like stomach flu, food poisoning) the pedialyte is to

keep him hydrated but your milk will do that because it is mainly water so I

don't think there is any need for the pedialyte at all. It wont keep him from

vomiting so why use it? hope you guys feel better soon I know how miserable

it is to be so sick (( hugs))

I second (or third) the thought to just keep nursing him. The Pedialyte

can't be any better for him than your own milk. Some people (non bfers)

questioned my continuing to nurse Drake even when we all had the very bad

stomach flu, milk products they thought were to be avoided. But nursing him

was the best thing for him and that's what I did, even when he'd throw it all

up.

I wouldn't bother with the pedialyte, I think it's basically a scam

anyway..........

Hope you all get to feeling better really soon. Hopefully it's just a little

bug and you'll all be back to normal quickly.

That's what those people (my mom, aunt, well meaning friends) thought too I'm

sure. It's when Drake is sick that I'm MOST glad to still be nursing him.

Not only because there's no medicine like my milk and mostly for the reason

you said about making them feel better.

We went thorough the same thing at Christmas time! Just keep nursing him!

Breastmilk is very readily absorbed so even if it's only in his stomach a

few mins, it's better than pedialite which isn't as easily absorbed!!!

hated the pedialite when I tried it with him (he was 14 mos at the time) - I

tried it too...ICKY!!!! So don't bother, just keep bf! Try maybe to nurse

for shorter amounts of time, more frequently so small amounts go into his

tummy at a time!

Good luck!!!

I would continue to breastfeed, as bm is the easiest digested and

absorbed substance.. and if he vomits and happened to inhale some, it

wouldn't cause in fection.. You could try giving him sips of pedialyte along

with bf, to keep him hydrated.. But my ped said bm was best even for vomiting

Take care
